Absolutely fumming

Forgive me but I have to have a good rant as I am so P***ed off.

My fridge is broken and under warrenty, and I booked well in advance for an engineer to come out today. He was suppose to arrive between 8am-1pm. I checked my phone later on in the morning and noticed a missed call at 11am, private number and no message was left.

The Seimens fridge which is under 2 years old is under warrenty; I call up the company dealing with the repairs and am told the engineer called my mobile at 11am because he could not find parking (wanted to ask where to park), and because I did not answer my phone, left and went to the next job (he did not even attempt to ring on my bell). And at the moment there are no appointments until 13th Jan.

When my fridge first broke down, for the first appointment I made to get an engineer out, I get a call on the day of the appointment saying it's been cancelled because the man is ill. Another appointment is booked and an engineer comes out (he did not have problems finding parking), but is unable to fix the fridge because he does not have the necessary spare parts.

Today this engineer calls my mobile once, and does not leave a message. His call is registered as "private call, no number", and it's only on calling his company that I find out what's happened. What I can't understand is that he didn't even ring on my door bell, which was what I was expecting as no one from the company warned me there was a chance the engineer could phone.

I live on a residential street, there is not a huge problem looking for parking (first engineer managed to do it). I was told by the company customer services that it was my fault I did not answer the mobile, that it was standard procedure if a company was delivering something etc they may call you if there is a problem, and that I should have known that and should not have needed to be told this fact by the company. However, as far as I was concerned, I was expecting someone to turn up betwee 8am-1pm and ring on my door bell. The company did not forewarn
me to expect a call. If I knew they would definitely call me before turning up, I would have gone out and run some errands rather than sit in all morning with two screaming kids wating for the door bell to go.

I spoke to the supervisior who just fobbed me off as well, saying "sorry, but we do not have any available appointments until 13 Jan, but our team are looking to see if there are any cancellations in your area in before that date". So far they have not got back to me.

I am so angry. It's as though they have me over a barrel and there's absolutely nothing I can do. I bought my fridge from John Lewis, if that's any use.

Sorry all this is very rambling.

Has any one got any advice as to what I could do?

Many thanks,

I would be furious too.. but let it go for today.. it's New Years Eve... and make it a resolution for today to give the company hell!

It might be worth contacting John Lewis, their customer service is pretty good, they may be able to contact the manufacturers and get an earlier call for you.
  • Your contract under the Sale of Goods Act, is with John Lewis, not the manufacturer. Ring JL and explain your fridge is broken. They will probably tell you to contact the manufacturer directly, but explain the problems you've been having and remind them of their responsibility to you.
