M8 you slagged the life out of me, rubbished everything I said and called me for everything

All because I dared to question your methods!

How did you expect me to react?

A closed mind can be a bad thing

When your quite new to a forum and an 'experienced' member says something along the lines of 'f*ck off and mind your own business' but you decide to continue anyways, you can pretty much expect a bit of a slanging match.
I come on the techie part of these forums to help people who NEED help. Not have some snot nosed loudmouth telling me what im doing is 'wrong', especially when they clearly have no clue what theyre talking about (And trust me, youve made it VERY clear in some cases)

  • Comodo Internet Security works well with W7.

You either love it or hate it - I found it good and it has had a few good reviews as well as having one of the best firewalls around.

    From your link:
AVG was among the first of the free antivirus products offered, and has long been a favorite of this site and others. However, their detection rates are consistently testing at the bottom of these free antivirus applications. They've also had a number of problems with their update servers recently. While AVG is still a good choice, it's at the bottom of our recommendations. Compatible with Windows 98/ME/NT/2K/XP/Vista, 64-bit and Linux.

It still has a worse detection rate than the other free options, it's the worst at detecting new malware, it doesn't have the smallest performance impact, and it's not the easiest to use.

Every single time I have removed AVG from someone's computer, its replacement has went on to find malware that AVG missed.

I (have to) use the paid for version of AVG at work, on various versions of Windows, and have had a number of issues, with AVG stopping Outlook accessing e-mails for no reason, so I had to disable that protection option, and with AVG stopping the browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox from accessing the internet, so I disabled that protection option.

Recently there have been a couple of extra issues. Firstly the daily update from the internet does not work on some days, and the only way around that seems to be to download the update files from the AVG website into a folder and then update from that folder. Secondly there is some AVG 'network scanner' process avgnsx.exe that randomly kicks in, using over 90% of the CPU and so stopping anything else on machine from working. I tried disabling the avgnsx option, and then uninstalling AVG and reinstalling excluding avgnsx, but it keeps coming back.

It is company policy to use AVG, so I cannot uninstall it completely from my main work machine, but I am considering running a virtual machine from the main machine just to avoid AVG.

I would therefore recommend people to avoid AVG.

At home, I use the Microsoft firewall and MSE with Defender on my Windows 7 pcs (plus MAM), and use Agnitum Outpost and MSE on my Vista pcs.

Deals, if you choose to install Microsoft Security Essentials (and it's a very good suite) then you will not need to install Windows Defender as it comes as part of the MSE package. As I prefer to use Avast as my anti-virus solution (and not MSE), I therefore install Defender as a separate download (for anti-malware). Hope that clarifies ;)

And have a lovely New Year also
