I like Microsoft Security Essentials
But if you search this forum there are lots of threads about this.
The other main free contenders are Avira and Avast.
AVG is also available but not as well regarded as it used to be.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Hi There
Try one of these:- AVG FREE Anti-Virus - Excellent Free anti-virus software
- Avast FREE Anti-Virus - Another good Free anti-virus
- Avira FREE Anti-Virus - Another good Free anti-virus
- PC Tools Anti-virus Free Edition
And download MBAM for malware

Often a contentious issue on this sub-forum. So very much a matter of personal preference. For me I think Avast is superb; alongside this I use Windows Defender (which you will not need to install as a separate download if you choose to install MSE). The inbuilt firewall in Windows 7 is actually very decent too:cool:.

AVG 9 has caused loads of problems on some computers. I certainly couldnt recommend it:idea:0

Please do not continue to recommend AVG. It is not "excellent" and barely makes "good" in tests.
Avast twice this year has rendered millions of computers unusable by quarantining Windows system files.0 -

Deals, if you choose to install Microsoft Security Essentials (and it's a very good suite) then you will not need to install Windows Defender as it comes as part of the MSE package. As I prefer to use Avast as my anti-virus solution (and not MSE), I therefore install Defender as a separate download (for anti-malware). Hope that clarifiesplease explain! thanks
And have a lovely New Year also :beer:0
