Katie - whilst you are feeling bad, just stop. I found that once I had decided to give up, that was it. I know it isn't that easy for everyone but you have to want to give up.

Sadly I have never been able to give up chocolate in the same way I gave up smoking though!!

Seriously I am so glad I did. It costs such a lot and you really do notice a difference in the smell of your clothes and hair (ooops reformed smoker rant there, sorry!)

Ha its ok, il hopefully be able to join you in that rant soon!! I think I should stock up on lollypops and chewing gum to keep me occupied!! I can save £1820 a year on uk prices  Any other tips?

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

    stay away from drink
I actually always kept a packet handy cos if I knew they were there then I didn't seem to crave them.

I am sure it must be easier now that pubs don't allow smoking. Even after I gave up I found going out for a drink with friends who smoked incredibly difficult. I often ended up having a cigarette but then felt awful the day after. When that happens remind yourself that you are a non smoker and carry on as if nothing happened.

It does get easier. I too am a reformed smoker and I found it really difficult to breathe at my in laws over christmas. They constantly moan they have no money to do anything and yet smoke 40 a day....

My mother in law would rather cough a lung up than give up smoking! Its quite distressing to see tbh

*sorry that turned into a bit of a rant*

Ha its ok sammy, thanks for the advise, see this is why im wondering maybe I should wait til I get back from the UK as you can smoke everywhere here, all my friends smoke and we have quite a few nights out coming up. Whereas when Im back in the UK this wont be against me. I am planning to reinvent myself. Sounds really silly I know, but i left the UK in such a mess. An emotional wreck is maybe a better description. I thought the whole world revolved around one guy, and then when it went wrong my world collapsed. So I ran off to another country for 6 months, and found my confidence again and now I feel that I am ready to face it all, so flight is booked for January 14th! I have booked a hair appointment for 15th at my old hairdressers, new cut and highlights (it makes my hair look really blonde!!); think im going for mid length and a blunt fringe! (i have long hair and no fringe at the moment!) I am treating myself to a new wardrobe at dorothy perkins (courtesy of xmas money from mum! plus free delivery (card holder) and 10% off (signing up to newsletter) I have seen a lovely military coat in purple (purple is going to be the main colour so i can mix and match) and other bits and pieces. I am really looking forward to it, iv been knocked down but Im ready to jump back up, and nothing helps me more than a new style and a kick as* pair of heels!! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger eh?!

Rant over! It just doesn't seem real until i write it down! Maybe I should start a diary!

    Morning/afternoon everyone!

Since we're on about NY resolutions, mine are:
    1. Give up the evil nicotine (kicks up the bum are more than welcome)
    2. Pay off some debts - I have two in my sights
    3. Lose some weight - try 50lbs+!
    4.Be nicer to people
    5. Let Pint know if I'm unhappy so he can help cheer me up.

And I did my blog post, so all uni work is doned for now. Just need to start writing stuff about what we've done in one bit so I have notes for the timed assessment
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
