You'll be amazed at just how difficult it can be to find someone at IKEA that knows how to do it though! I visited three separate departments (Customer Service, Kitchens, Supervisors) and all said it wasn't possible. I even had the part number of the doors I needed, but it didn't come up on their computers any more. Fortunately I found someone who wouldn't give up and eventually found the correct area on the IKEA website (www.aftersales.ikea.com) that held old numbers etc. for special order (note that this info is only available to IKEA stores I think - I tried accessing it at home but couldn't).

I did note that the display kitchen used the old style (colour) doors - only the individual door sample was correct, but this was about a hundred feet away from the display kitchen. Some people may have been a bit surprised when opening their new kitchens........

I totally agree its all about who can be dare I say bothered to look but thankfully I got a very helpful girl, this was when you spoke to stores mind you not the call centre!

  • I have been in the industry for the past 15 years, i do know a thing or two on this subject. The guarantees ikea et all offer is worthless. Even if you were going to claim and get through the disclaimers which prevent these guarantees actually having any real clout, the chances are if you bought ikea you arent going to be in the house in 2 years time as you will have moved up the ladder. Not being disparaging but this is their niche. All mass produced tat involves saving pennies here and there and reducing the quality of the product - 18mm MFC carcase - great whoopee doo!! Everyone in UK uses a 18mm but thats not the key - how dense is it? MFC is used by 90% of companies and is fit for purpose it is woodchip and resin. Theres a few good brands out there Id list about 4 board manufacturers that are ok. but if u sell a million kitchens a week and save 50p by using something resembling weetabix then ikea can save £500,000 per week the customer saves 50p but has bought someold rubbish. Solid backs - ditto it costs next to mothing to have solid backs to the carcases but sell 1miliion a wek and that 50p mounts up, but the customer gets a worse product.
2.0mm edgieng...if the manufacturer can stretch to buying an edgebander that can handle 2.0mm edging the increase in cost per kitchen is negligible but the product is way way better. using 0.3mm edging u may as well use cigarette paper to protect the chipboard. It will chip within months and the chipboard will swell within the year. Console yourself with the fact u saved an extra £5 when ur kitchen starts looking tatty within the year. It didnt have to be like that even if you cant be arsed to complain a year later.
There i s ahuge difference in the quality of the finish..the difference between something good and something dreadful doesnt cost alot but no body seems to know where to go to...all well and good going to b and q, then ikea, the wickes then homebase etc etc!! you may as well be goingto the same place.
Allthe low end mongers are a bit pooh really its the nature of the beast - theyre trying to save money and be the cheapest and employ people who know nothing about anything outside what they do...there is a real alternative if you only just know where to look, and it bugs me that that the blind are led by the blind. ask me or dont ask me ...i am not trying to sell anything as money saving isnt the market i am in....however i can tell people where to go to get a good deal if theyre on a budget............it isnt ikea its not b and q its not wickes.........but go to them if u dont want to listen!!.....is giving up smoking making me sound narky?? carol x

All that and you didn't reveal to us this mystical place where you know that we can go for a kitchen... I for one would be interested.

DG windows and kitchens must attract more spammers than anything else on this website.

just keep away from this criminal.
    Get some gorm.
  • Just to add my 2p-worth.

We bought an IKEA kitchen 12 months ago and love it. The quality/cost ratio was far better than anywhere else in my price range.

By way of example - 12 months on & no shelf-sag where I store my tins ;-)

If you do go for Wickes / B&Q whatever make sure you haggle. The staff have huge margins to play with when it isn't sale time - 45% off isn't unknown.

I hope the quality of the kitchens you recommend isn't the same as the quality of your typing ;)
