Ikea or Wickes

I have been looking to upgrade my kitchen and the current favourite is likely to come from the Chippendale range via a local supplier. We've done the rounds of B&Q, Focus etc though have no Wickes or Ikea in the immediate vicinity. Does anyone have any good or negative feedback for this particular range?0

wickes all day long for quality all around. but price may be a winner over quality.0

If you want better quality and easier to fit then go to Wickes. If you want cheap go to ikea......................just dont go to B&Q because you wont get either.
Use a recommended fitter too and not Wickes fitting option.

Always use a proper fitter!!! a builder who thinks he can fit a kitchen cos he did a howdens one a couple of years ago could f..k up a poggenpohl kitchen and make it look no better than an ikea one. Howdens arent much cop but they are the benchmark for a vaguely ok ish kitchen. when you are looking low end theyre all a bit dull... and theyre all roughly the same price in the end Benchmarx = garbage ikea= garbage and weird sizes so when you come to try and change the doors a couple of years down the lineyou are stuck with going to ikea again b&q = garbage no matter how thyre trying brand them, wickes isnt much better either but they have improved but in doing so have put their prices up accordingly. Not all expensive kitchens are good but no good kitchens are cheap. If you know th actual things that make one kitchen better than another and you are on a budget try looking at www.crown-imperial.co.uk or perhaps www.mereway.co.uk You wont usually find these available through builders or the places they usually go (although i think some moreclued up builders may know how to get hold of them) Merton timber do sell crown www.plumbcraft.co.uk do too as do www.mustardkitchens.co.uk another company that may be of use would be www.diy-kitchens.com All of these guys will sell infinitely better products than you will find at diy stores or through your average builder.0

Just to clarify - Although you don't think much of them...Benchmarx supply THE SAME as Wickes kicthens therefore I am suprised you view wickes a slightly better! I for one am very impressed with my Benchmarx kitchen!0 -

We had to move and I STILL miss that kitchen.
Oh and it featured HEAVILY in the estate agent's brochure...big selling point as it was so 'well designed'.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
Cheers Valli, that sounds a wee bit like us, trawled round everywhere and these guys are within a couple of miles - still no harm in looking round!! That range was the pick of the showroom for us also so we will see exactly what we can fit in and at what price.0

chippendale sheraton and omega are the same compnay trading under different names. i have used omega before and they are actually quite good for the money too. slightly less quality than crown - they dont use 2mmpvc edging on their carcases for example and their doors arent quite as well finished but for the money theyre quite good. omegaplc is the website and you can get a list of suppliers.. www.sinksation.co.uk and www.mustardkitchens.co.uk sell them. John lewis used to sell some of their products as their homebrand range altho they now use www.mereway.co.uk as their homebrand range. Buying them as mereway and not jonelle is a much cheaper way to buy.0

Trust me i've done the legwork its ikea by a mile.
Best price (just get quotes)
Best quality - check cabinet thickness etc ikea thickest 18mm
Best cabinets - ikea cabinets have more depth, yes you have to cut around pipes where required but it means you have more storage space as with the big buck kitchen companies. (and thats what you pay a fitter for the advantage of a deeper cabinet is for you, the service gap is there for the fitters convenience so them cam slam them in quick without regard to fittings etc in your kitchen)
Best guarantees - Ikea cabinets 25 years, taps 10 years and appliances 5 years...b&q 1 year, wickes 5 years cabinets only ...the guarantee says what they think about their own product.
installation my advice echoes previous advice if you know a good low price kitchen fitter(not a builder/carpenter) get them to do it if not use ikea fitting 3 years guarantee and again cheaper. Don't be fooled by 'free fitting' £100 fitting' etc offers the real cost of this is built into the price of kitchen. my kitchen including fitting came out nearly half of wickes, 30% less than b&q and its a better kitchen.
Ikea also have a like for like chart you can check which shows them vs wickes, b and q etc. Worth taking with you when you do the rounds for quotes as it cuts through the bull you tend to get from commision sales people.... http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_GB/img/local_store_info/cardiff//Competitors%20Grid.pdf
cheers

ps don't be fooled by 15% off etc wickes and b and q etc they put the prices up for a month and then do these offers. As always with us moneysavers get a quote from all and see....if they will not give you a clear quote walk away.back off man i'm a scientist0 -

Wickes are also 18mm including the backs. From a fitting point of view, wickes win every time0
