Bleurgh, that sounds *very* unpleasant, and I hope that headache subsides soon.
And the MiL and your own mum.... dear me. You must've talked to your own mum, yes, because she's lending you the £4k... tho a face to face visit is something else again. And the MiL!!! Eek... do you get on well with her normally? I have to say that yesterday, with the visit from my mum and my sister, I noticed how difficult it was to be with my mum. She's really fairly elderly now, so its a bit different, but its simply that everything is accentuated - slapdash has become uncaring, that sort of thing.
Anyway, consolatory confectionery is a plus, you have to find a bright side where you can. One bright side of the visit yesterday is that my sister cooked for us - she does a lovely veggie dish of lentils, aubergines and red wine, very moreish. And she left the leftovers with me, bless her.
I hope the day pans out well for you, Hypno.

I have loads of red lentils in my cupboard, so I need a yummy recipe or two for them - might search on OS sometime today. I did a cupboard and freezer audit yesterday, and really do have plenty there to help eke out the budgets but I will have to do more in the way of creative cooking, and using up things that I generally don't use - for example I have a tin of chickpeas, loads of lentils and a cupboard full of spices to grind, so I should be able to make a fab Indian dish of somesort with that lot, but I'm not brave enough just to give it a go in case I end up with something that just tastes of curried chickpeas and lentils, if that makes sense!!
More coffee needed I reckon!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Yep, makes sense to me - maybe you need enough of your normal veg to go with it, sort of thing? Onions and carrots and whatnot... and of course, coffee is always good, tho curried coffee might be a step too far2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hypno you could make lentil soup, cook onion, stick loads of veg in with lentils and then add veg or chicken stock and leave to cook for half an hour. Blitz and voila.....ive been living off it for the last week as its mucho cheapness!
Or you could make potato and chickpea croquettes with the chickpeas. I have loads of recipes at home I'l post up laterI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
