Sounds interesting. I found this when I googled the brochure:

"The thermostat will adjust the start time in the morning/afternoon
so the desired temperature is reached by the start of the program
period. The system will restrict the start time to a max of 2 hours."

I'd be interested to find out more info on it's learning ability.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

Is that only on the morning setpoint though, or all of them?

    It's all of them.

I had read that it was only the first morning one that optimised but on using the unit I have discovered it's definitely all of them.
For example, when it goes from the daytime setpoint to the evening setpoint ready for you to get home from work, does it optimise that one as well?

I have the first morning temp set to be 18 degrees at 7am. So far I have found it switching on anything from around 5 minutes to around 75 minutes before 7am so far.

From 7:40am it goes to 10 degrees and the next change is to have it at 19 degrees for 5pm. So far I've seen it switching on at the earliest 3:50pm.

Next time point is 7:30pm where I have it set for 20 degrees - this one perhaps doesn't optimise just as well but it's at 19.5 degrees just now (7:32pm) so not far off.

That's exactly what it is doing.

It certainly seems to be learning. Initially I had the unit in the living room but it wasn't reliable as far as the wireless signal was concerned so I moved it out into the hall.

I found that it adjusted its optimisation accordingly.

Thanks for that. Looks like I might just be updating my boiler controls soon then. My programmer is coming up to four years old now.

Why the red face - is that not good that you've just bought one?

yes, i'm looking forward to setting it up. i just sometimes feel a sucker for a 'bargain' on ebay.

the price was right though and i have been obsessing about my heating control for a while now.

It certainly does a good job.

It also has party mode and holiday mode - easy to work and programme.

Make sure you turn optimisation on if that's what you want to use. Its default setting is off.

Any idea how I would connect this up to a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi combi boiler?

It has a timer module fitted in the boiler that times the hot water pre-heat and is also the receiver for the thermostat.

If I were to take that out and replace it with this gadget, I would lose the boiler pre-heat facility which is useful in the summer for getting hot water more quickly when the heating is off. I've no idea if I can connect up a separate control for the heating while retaining the timer for the water pre-heat.
