I'm nowhere near your normal weight glowgirl, and I'd really notice 8lb too, so i get where you're coming from. Goodness knows how much I've put on, but certain things are feeling a litte snug of late, so I'm going to be trying to get back to normal (after my birthday on Sunday, I refuse to diet on my birthday!).

Jenniewb, hope you don't mind me pointing out, she said it felt like she'd put on two stone!

I've done something similar and I am 9 pounds heavier but don't worry, it is Xmas and this sort of thing happens at this time of year. Just start living a healthy lifestyle again in the new year. There is loads of great advice already in this thread. But the main thing to remember is don't worry! :P

I see my doctor fairly regularly for other reasons and I have no problems at all despite following a very low carb diet for about 5 years, but thanks for your comments, 8 pounds looks like about 2 stone on me (or thats how it feels) as I am small framed and dont carry it well and as for the fit of my jeans, dont even start me off:rolleyes:I dont really need advice (but thanks anyway) just needed an outlet other than annoying my family again;)

    This is why:o
  • I am only 5 foot tall, also about half a stone over where I prefer to be too, and it feels like a lot more. I am hovering around 9 stone, but 8 stone 4 is fighting weight for me.

I agree, its not a huge amount but it does feel like a lot more on a little person. everyone else says i look fine and no need to worry, i wouldnt say i really worry about it but would prefer to get back to where i was so i can fit in my nice (expensive so dont want to waste them!) jeans and my bike leathers!

i know if i ditch the alcohol and the cheese (mmmm cheese!) for a few weeks then i will lose it. difficult to avoid in the winter though when i just want to curl up in the warm with a glass of wine and eat lots of comfort food!

    good luck :)

No, not scientific, and written by someone that has clearly never read any of the books mentioned.

This bit is true (but only to a point).

Not true. Many people who low carb long term are in ketosis but do not suffer any ill effects.

Again, not true. After the initial very strict induction (to wean you off carbs) the diet is based around non-starchy veg and salad with normal amounts of protein. It certainly is not unlimited amounts of meat, cheese or butter (but someone who bothered to read a low carb book would know that)

Which is why it shouldn't be a diet, but a way of life.

Having low carbed (not no carbed) for over 8 years with a decent amount of exercise I am living proof that the above paragraph is utter !!!!. ;)

Spoken like someone that's neither read the books nor asked any people.

Low carbers are encouraged to take supplements. A recent test showed that I am not deficient in any nutrients whatsoever.

The American Heart Association don't know what they are talking about. They sold the 'low fat = healthy' myth in the 1950s based on zero scientific evidence.

Should you like to understand the science of eating/the myth of our current diet thinking I can recommend the Diet Delusion.

No sorry we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, a low carb diet, in my opinion, isn't good for you in the long run. A balanced diet and regular exercise is the way to go.
  • I'm normally happy at 9st 6/7 but stupidly weighed myself yesterday am horrified to be weighing in at 10st 2! Not enormous and still within my healthy weight but am determined to get it off. I knew I'd put weight on as I look like a badly stuffed sausage in my skinny jeans!!!

Like a previous poster said,my vices are cheese and wine and have troughed my way through a fair old amount of chocolate over Christmas but that will all stop come Sunday (out for dinner tonight and then party tomorrow!:o)

    Low carb IS balanced.

I have followed a low carb way of eating since 2002 for health reasons which my doctor approves.

I also suggest the Diet Delusion as some bedtime reading, it is really informative.
