Home Plugs HELP!

  • Cheers Wonka, that's how things currently stand. I have 1 plug still in the box.

Still have the Xbox live problem though, which used to work earlier today.

You're not getting a warning from the Netbook about 'another device is using the same IP address' (or similar)..? Can't remember how obvious this is - quite some time since I had a similar glitch, you may have to restart the netbook then watch for a pop-up bottom right of the taskbar.

are you trying to access XBox live whilst you are running the online football etc on the others? it could be that you're just using up all your bandwidth! if your line is at say 4.5meg (typical "realistic" speed on an 8meg connection) then running 2x online videos, general internet (i assume, judging by your prescence on here) and trying to play an online game all at the same time will cause issues. if everything is disconnected (bar the net connection for MSE) then try the XBox. does that work?

  • Only running 1 internet application at a time, cheers.

Here's a thing. The plugs don't seem to recognise each other. The 2nd light is out, this was not the case earlier in the day.
Any way of resetting these? Might unplug them and leave them for a bit.

I would suggest going back to basics. Disconnect all home plugs except the one for the router, then connect one to the Xbox. If that doesn't work, try the other two as well on the Xbox instead.

Do the plugs support encryption/privacy? If so, is it possible that this has been enabled? That would explain why one plug fails and the other two work fine. I use home plugs and had this problem initially.
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

One other thing. Did the plugs come with a software CD? If so, install this, and run it. It should tell you when it detects plugs connected to the network, and should help with diagnosing the problem.

This is a long shot, but are both pairs the same model and speed? Homeplugs are not backward compatible in terms of speed, so for example an 85Mb one will not talk to a 200Mb one. However they should still all work in the sense that they will all talk to the router-they just won't network with each other.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thx.
I do have the software, I imstalled it earlier on. I could see all 4 plugs earlier on but only 2 now. Does this mean that the other 2 are encrypted? Can you remember how I remove this?

    Many thx again.

Mine occasionally drop out - think it's when the fridge, freezer, and de-humidifier all kick in at the same time, but haven't really nailed it down yet.

Sounds like they were singing off the same password sheet, so may be a mains glitch. You can re-sync by pushing the large button on the front for a couple of seconds then releasing (that's how you sync any new ones to your existing network) - never short-circuited my drop-outs though.
