Mobiles.co.uk Cashback Con

Mobiles.co.uk seem to trying do everything possible to confuse users so they can reject as many cashbacks as possible.

They have recently changed their cashback terms and it is not very clear this is the case till they reject your claim for being late and you go and read the cashback page again very very carefully.

The new terms are with in 60 days however if you took your contract before 16th Sep you only have 30 days to send you bill.

We were 7 days late due to postal strike and the different cashback terms confusion on there site and mobiles.co.uk rejected our claim and they are not prepared to take the postal strike and the website confusion into consideration.

It takes days to get response from their Cashback team and most the time the response is pretty much useless.

ANOTHER UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

ALL cashback offers involve terms that do everything possible to confuse users so that they can reject as many claims as possible - that's how they make money. Do you really think they make anything out of giving you large discounts on contracts if your claims are 100% successful?
  • Not so. Phones4u/Mobiles2yourdoor are the complete opposite and user-friendly. They walk the talk unlike all cpw companies who are totally dishonest in all sorts of ways - including this one. However, not printing off, understanding and following the t&c AT THE POINT OF sale is the real mistake in this case - then when they try it on you can sue!

Rule No.1 - Never trust cashback deals. They are the most utterly disturbed deals on the market.
  • Don'gt know about "disturbed", but they've saved me a small fortune and produced many other benefits for the last few years. They are there to catch people out who don't do them properly - but that does not mean they can't be done with great success IF you put in the time and effort and understand everything you can about them (and who it is you are actually dealing with).

I emailed them and they take days to reply, once again ensuring you miss your deadlines. These guys are cons.

All operators are not the same. I have dealt with others without many issues. Mobiles.co.uk are worse so far.

They also use delaying tactics to get you past the deadline for returns too which is a disgrace !!!
It's not just about the money
  • Another unhappy Mobiles.co.uk customer here, they are refusing my cashback on the grounds of late submission, but I have followed their T&C's to the letter.
I bought my phone in June and the T&C's state:

"For the avoidance of doubt month 6 will be the bill dated in the month that is 6 months after your connection date (the date displayed on your invoice). E.g. If connected in January, the sixth month will be July so we need to receive your July bill within 30 days of the date on that bill." - http://!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/%5Cfree-gift-hplr-post-aug-23-2008.html

If July is 6 months after January then I would say that December is 6 months after June and I should have 28 days from my December bill date to claim (I claimed well within this timeframe). Am I wrong?:

Theirs: January, Febuary, March, April, May, June, July.
Mine: June, July, August, September, October, November, December

Can someone confirm I'm not going mad!? Is their website misleading and incorrect? All I get from mobiles is standard responses, does their representative still post here?

    Thanks, J

They also appear to use stalling tactics to drag things out - I emailed a different member of mobiles.co.uk in response to their email and nada since but they are aware I'm on the verge of taking them to court.

This could be because they chose to ignore a flaw in their own t&c which they have now attempted to alter in the current version (pretending the actual t&c you signed up to weren't t&c which - of course! - they are). If you ordered the phone at the end of May but it wasn't connected until June (no matter if they tell you otherwise - they lie!) under YOUR t&c your claim is perfectly correct and should be paid. It is not late and if they don't pay it you will be able to successfully sue. If you ordered in June and were connected in June then they can't try and muddy the waters (as they do) arguing the order date is the same as the connection date (it isn't despite anything they tell you) OR by referring to their CURRENT t&c which are worded differently. Let me know if I can help.

Can't you just email them the bill? That's what I've been doing. So far I'm 2 for 2, with the 3rd bill/cashback claim due this month. It's all been very straight forward, with no reliance on Royal Mail.
