Are DHL even bothering to deliver since it snowed 2 weeks ago?

I do think they should have made more of an effort. I spoke to someone subbed by DHL in the week before Xmas as he had 3 days worth of parcels sitting on his van as he could not access side roads Personally I would have walked to ensure some of the customers got the stuff they needed for Xmas. I just do not think people wanted to go to work in the snow.
and you would have been the first person to complain if whilst carrying the fine china the driver slipped and smashed it!!
People seem to forget the snow and ice isnt everywhere but it may well be around the distribution centre meaning drivers and transport just cant get to the area, you could have used royal mail at least they might get it by march, if your luckyEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I appreciate that. But why can some carriers (including Royal Mail) manage (albeit with difficulties) and yet others can't!!
you serious royal mail stopped for 5 days here in north devon, we had two days of ice and a little snow in the outlying areas but they still stopped delivering, DHL and others were delivering though.
It not only the weatehr in your local area that affects the delivery your parcel doesnt just arrive it usually goes to a distribution centre, if half the workforce live in outlying areas and just can not get in who do you expect to sort the parcels??
Britain has always come to a standstill when we get a bit of ice and snow it amazes me why people are surprisedEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Yet all the other carriers managed it, as did the milkman (with his glass bottles) on his transit. And the binmen came too come to think of it. Strange that. And it is clear what my parcel contains and it isn't fine china!!0 -
so two local suppliers delivered, DHL drivers can cover a huge area i know ours in north devon come up from exeter the binmen live down the road and the council works is two miles away. Like i said just because the conditions outside your door were do able doesnt mean 25 miles away they weren't impassableEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Please see my previous post. We are now on day 12 since it was collected:rolleyes: I could have walked there. Okay I know that we have had bad weather, but life does go on!!Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
fair enough its been 12 days, 4-5 of those days they wouldnt have delivered anyway, or moved from depot to depot.
My post was aimed for BM though who was complaining about a parcel not being received with 10 days, being dispatched on 20th (Sunday) so more than likely 21st, - xmas day, boxing day, sunday and bank holiday monday, if it got stuck in the collectors depot due to bad weather before xmas it wont move until after xmas so to get it today is very acceptable IMO.
I understand from a business point how buyers can be very impatient when it comes to receiving goods but surely they are aware of the various weather conditions happenning currently so need to be a little patientEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Okay sorry if I jumped the gun. The likelihood though is that those items that arrive after Xmas (that were expected for Xmas) will be returned under the Distance Selling Regulations. Not the end of the world. Just a bl**dy nuisance!!Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
i totally agree, but thats down to this society where they wanted everything yesterday lol and i know how returns can affect a business.
Im not trying to cause an argument im merely putting a point across that some of this weather is very localised, i know here where i live we had no snow, but i went 15 miles away (This was weekend before xmas eve) and there was an inch of snow and it was settling, along with the fact most councils are only gritting the main roads and not the side roads and not even some of the B roadsEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
We were all out on Christmas Eve, came back to a RM card saying they'd tried to deliver something which needed a signature, no answer so go and collect, for which our first opportunity is tomorrow as we've been away.
However, in our absence two packets have come through the door which say they require a signature, so I don't know who signed for them.
Just hoping when I arrive at the sorting office tomorrow they can find the original package!
But as for the weather, in Bristol at the start of last week you wouldn't have wanted to park your van on a gritted road and walk up a side road, chances are someone would have slid into your van or it would have caused a major obstruction, because even the roads which were gritted weren't particularly clear, and the pavements have been ice rinks.
In Newbury last Monday it took an hour to cross town and the same to get back in the afternoon. I wasn't there then, but on Christmas Eve I had serious doubts about whether we'd get my aged mother out of her house and as far as the car, you have to use a footpath to reach either her front or her back door, and none of them had been gritted. Actually I had doubts about whether I would reach either of her doors safely, even with very sensible shoes, a walking stick, and a Boy to hang on to!
Yesterday there were still the remains of a 7.5 foot snowman in my sibling's garden from that snow, and there were STILL lumps of ice in our hotel car park last night.
Maybe we're getting old, but neither DH nor I can remember it being this treacherous on pavements, for this long, over so wide an area. I am astonished that ANY of our packages arrived on time!
But I am sorry that some of yours didn't, BM, and you wish customers would be a bit more philosophical about it too. After all, a present is for life, not just for Christmas ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
So, for the months of December to February we have to assume that we will have no sort of life, nor can we run any sort of business in case it snows.... that is ridiculous. Especially when it is just one courier that is not delivering.
It is all very well good being returned under DSR's but then I have to pay out the following because DHL did not deliver to me when every other company could. DHL are the nearest courier to us, the others such as UPS are much further away: Merchants card processing charge for putting the payment through, merchants card processing charge for the refund, postage to the customer - all of this is around £3-4 for something I have had to refund in full. Then I have to pay for the goods that have been returned because I cannot return them without incurring a charge (not the company's fault as they were sent on time), these are 'to order' as the customer requires them. So it leaves me out of pocket because they did not deliver in time because of the snow.
Oh and my husband is a mobile service engineer, I know what the roads are like as he has been out to work every day - on the road in his van driving around the entire area. And he has been home on time every day while getting all of his work done. And he has to drive around country roads as well as main roads. It has not been THAT bad out here - even I went out and drove in the snow. And one of those times I was being 'pushed' to drive faster by HDN who were delivering.
Most customers are understanding but if they get an alternative present and return the ones they have ordered from me, a lot of which are ordered in for the customer, then means I am out of pocket.
I out 20th as it was tried for delivery on 21st so it was actually sent on the Friday so that would be the 18th? I've lost track of the days. If they could not work the days they were supposed to because of bad weather they should have either bought in more subcontractors (they DO do this because I know someone who does it) or worked longer days to get the work done.0
