American Airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and more big flight sales

I hate to state the obvious, but this is on the wrong board! The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

I can't choose between BA, AA and Virgin Atlantic, it costs £315, £305, £316 respectively London-New York-London. Which is the best, safest, has the best service, food, usually on-time? And is least likely to have a terrorist on a plane?
I don't know why I'm freaked out about that, probably beacause I'm flying to JFK airport.
So far I'm thinking VA>BA>AA0 -
ive not flown long haul with ba so cant comment on them.
aa charge 7 dollars/ four pound for alcohol , and their in flight entertainment has a poor choice of films/ programs . the food is pretty good though.
virgin dont charge for alcohol and has a better entertainment entertainment system. also i found virgins website a little easier to use,if the prices were similar i would choose virgin.0 -
Consider how many are going and which seating would suit you on the aircraft type that the airline uses https://www.seatguru.com may help.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I flew long distance with VA nearly 6 years ago and I was not impressed with their service. My sister flew with them 2 weeks ago and she wasn't happy either. I haven't flown with BA or AA, but with such a small price difference I'd personally try any airline over VA. Although admittedly, I've heard someone say that they noticed a difference depending on the route and their opinion was that VA's service between USA and UK was better than between UK and South Africa (my sister and I were both going from Cape Town to London).0 -
I'd stick with BA every time.Legal team on standby0

I've never flown VA, would never fly BA again and I'm a very happy, annual AA customer. If you do decide to take the AA route, be sure to join the AAdvantage programme beforehand, as it is VERY generous on its mileage awards (depending on your destination in America, it is possible to fly trans Atlantic 3 times and then get the 4th flight free).
Also, as Gentle Giant pointed out, taking The Platinum Challenge is a good exercise, as (IIRC) it gives you bonus mileage on some of your travel legs.
p.s. you also get AAMile s for booking on their site and signing up for email offers etc.0 -

What put you off ?
Interestingly, I'm sampling AA for the first time next month. I'm flying off to the US for a meeting. Have you had any experience of their business class product ?
I understand it's a lie-flat seat, rather than the fully-flat industry standard ?Legal team on standby0 -

narrow seats & appalling leg room -- not a nice combo on a flight to/from Kenya. Oddly enough, the people who elected to fly Kenya Airways all enjoyed their flights !
I've no experience of flying Business Class with AA, -- although the seats on the 767s that fly (sorry flew) out of Manchester, looked plush. The setup in the 777s look nice.
