I have bought a recon grade a PVR with a 3 month guarantee from Morgan Computer Shop (site@MorganComputers.co.uk) and the company are not honouring it - telling me to get on to the manufacturer.
They leave me on hold on a 0844 number, and just keep repeating in emails that technical issues must be taken up with the manufacture [DIGILOGIC] I havent been able to find a link to them. Surely if the thing doesn't work, then their guarantee should be honoured! Help any one?

did you check the guarantee was with Morgan Computers?? 90% of recon products have a manufacturer warranty whereby you have to get in touch with the manufacturer for any warranty issues.

From wiki its a brand used by the like of tesco and argos along with other retailers and manufacturers. Have you emailed morgan computers for contact details that atleast they should give, if not they may also be info on the invoice/box/instructions

  • Hi thanks for your input.

When I purchased this pvr on the web site, it just said there was a 3 month guarantee. Checking the fine print on the web site, it basically says that if it breaks within the guarentee period, I am responsible for return and redelivery costs [which also seems a bit steep]. And of course I cant return it to them without a returns number. When I got the invoice, it just had the conditions on the back for a new purchase as opposed to a recon. There was no paperwork attatched to say either they or that a another certain company was giving me a 3 month guarantee, so why would Argos help me out when I didn't buy it from them, if indeed they are the manufacturers. I have asked Morgan for manufacturers detail, but as yet, no info has been forwarded.

Out of interest when did it arrive?

I reckon they have to sort it out, after reading their FAQs (which are are not very good).

  • Hi-

Well I bought it on the 17th November 2009. I didn't know they did not exist anymore.

Does this help me or make a solution even more unlikely?

    Thanks

thats standard im afraid most companies will expect you pay the return cost for a repair, some are nice and if it there fault they will pay the costs

Argos arent the manufacturers, digilogic is just a brand that is made for argos, tesco and other people to name a few

i think the OP got a bit confused when you mentioned argos
  • The sale of goods act still applies to second hand or B grade goods. You need to remind them of this as its completely separate from any additional warranty they offer.

  • Hi,
Here is a link to the original add, sorry everyone they are all sold out now, lol! :- [It seems I am not allowed to post this link, which is a shame, as you would have all the info that I had]

and here is what they say about returns:-

How do I return faulty goods under warranty?
If your item develops a fault within the first 28 days we will replace the product [subject to availability], assuming it is returned in as new condition with its original packaging and all accessories and documentation.
Thereafter goods will be replaced under the terms of the warranty. In these instances you will be liable for the return carriage costs. These guidelines do not apply in the case of damage, neglect, misuse or excessive wear and tear.

Please remember you must obtain a returns [RMA] number before returning goods to us.

Now although I did not check on arrival, I do believe it didn't work from the start, but that was my error for not checking. I also missed out on the 28 day clause as It arrived on 18th November and I gave it as a Xmas present on 25th December, so that just leaves me the terms of the warranty, which, on the link I cant show you, it just states that it has a 3 month warranty, and doesn't say anything about it being a manufacturers warranty.

Each time I email them I get this same response:-
    Dear Sir/Madam
I am sorry to here you are having problems with your purchase. Unfortunately all technical issues are not dealt with by ourselves but by the manufacturer. Please contact them and they will help you resolve any issues you have regarding this item.
    Regards
    IJT Support

When I phone them, I just get put on hold forever.

I have asked them for manufacturers details, but no response as yet.

I don't really know what the 'sale of goods act' is or how to approach it with them as they are not responding as such.

Any further suggestion would be gratefully received.
    Thanks all.
