Just worked out 1800 txt's is roughly 1 txt every 15 minutes!!
    wow.. just wow!
One text can be sent to multiple people. And if "one" text is actually three or four and then sent on to ten people.....all adds up.

  • When I forward a football "results" text it can be about 7 or 8 texts long....sent to 10 people. That's 70 or 80 texts just like that.

It is quite easy to rack up texts depending on how you use them. In my own circumstances I send goal update texts from non-league football games to various people. It is a level of football not covered by radio/tv.

If I send one text to 10 people for one afternoon of football and if I forward on texts from other games it can be quite easy to rack up a couple of hundred of texts.

so you have to do that do you...?
If you will the end, you must will the means.

I see...but why don't the people you forward these texts to subscribe to the results service themselves? That's what I don't understand. If letsfaceit is doing something like that, no wonder their bill is crippling them.

There is no results service. It is just finding out contacts at other clubs and getting them to send updates. There is one person that sends out all the results - but he is sending out texts to his contacts and as he has a contact at almost all clubs at this level that will be over 150 as it is. I should add that the level off football I watch only attracts crowds of a couple of hundred for run of the mill league games. Maybe in a few years there will be a results service - but at the moment there isn't even a bleeping fixture list. Clubs don't know who they are playing on the 9th January.....though strangely some clubs know who they will be playing on the 16th.

Buy a pay as you go o2 sim with unlimited texts, and use that to text. Use your existing contract for calls, or pay it off, if you'll have that much money free.

O2 won't let you downgrade, and while they do have unlimited text tariffs, are unwilling to 'transfer' people onto them. I don't know why, but I presume in your case it may be because they earn £200 a month from you!

not on iphones they dont though, they did at one point

Orange do so if you send loads of texts and want an iphone they are best option

I've tried very hard not to comment on this thread because the OP seems to want to sort his life and debts out, but for the life of me I cannot see how 1800 texts a month is necessary to 'stay in contact'. I also fail to see the point of theesel1994 sending a round robin text of up to 7 or 8 texts at a time with local / non league football results on. Surely to God one email would be easier? Is it just me, or do people seem to make their own problems worse by over complicating things.

Not everyones phones can receive emails - it is for people travelling back from an away match or those that go to the pub after the home match. The games end at 3:45pm but the results do not appear on the official website until 6pm-ish. Some people can't wait that long.

  • Some people can't wait that long.

So get them to help pay your phone bill then.

Or set up a subscription based service where they pay you to receive the texts. I'm sure you're good person who's heart is in the right place and people appreciate getting the results but you're the one who is being caned financially - not them.

Basically tell everyone on your mailing list that they're going to have to pay to receive the texts from now on or that's it.

Or just stop doing it alltogether - two simple solutions.

I don't have a problem with my texts on my phone bill it is the OP that had the problem - I was just explaining how easy it is to mount up texts. It isn't necessarily a case of sending 1800 individual texts but as I explained one message could easily equate to 80 texts.

Trust me, if it was costing me a penny I would not be doing it.
