Artydoll - love the bear, very cute!

I now have a small pile of granny squares and was wondering how to join them?? Obviously for my knitting I normally sew it up, but have just slip stitched a couple together and it was much easier but it kind of shows up. Although that may be because my colours are such a contrast - bright pink and white.

I usually join them together with one main colour, which can match or contrast,I join on the right side with a row of crochet picking up a loop from each squae ,if you know what I mean, not very good at explaining ,sorry.
This will show ,like in this throw,

You can also do the crochet on the wrong side when it wont show ,like this pic

Cant really explain this way but its a kind of crochet slip stitch.lol
Someone will be along who can explain better I hope.
Sorry if I,m not very helpful.

That's kind of what I was doing, but not so neatly :rotfl:.

    Practice makes perfect I hope........
  • I have got my very first crochet hook and tried it out last night using Utube demos... I think I have the bog standard chain stitch ok (apart from being some what mis-shapen :-)). I can do the single crochet stitch (also very wonkely)

What I am having problems with is holding the hook and wool properly, it keeps skipping and sliding all over the place the I really can't hold the wool properly in my left had.

Are there any good sites specifically for rubber handed people like me to stare at and try to pick it up?? I knit and sew but I really want to be able to do this also.

I am using wool... is this ok start off with or is it making things harder for me ?

i dont hold the wool right either. i kind of have the wool like i am knitting so the crochet hook and wool is in my right hand. i hold the item i am crocheting in my left hand.

well, so far i have done the head on my red sparkly teddy and it is looking alot better than my first effort! Hopefully i can get the body done tonight and the arms and legs done tomorrow. Or i could just not bother with the ironing this afternoon and get the body done today!!!!!!!!!! :p

artydoll - thats so cute! i need to make 3 for people i know who are having babies! I was thinking of making them all nappy cakes but crocheting the blanket and teddy instead of buying them.

my sparkly red teddy isnt going well! i finished the body but it looks a bit small and got the arms done but one looks smaller than the other and just have 1 1/2 legs to do! But the head looks good!! :P

I think its better with wool at the start ,crochet thread would be too thin for you to see what you are doing, good luck in your crochet, hope it all falls into place for you,It will soon be second nature and there will be no stopping you.
