New laptop, can't get internet

to enter the network details on XP, you can do it via the wireless network setup wizard (in start > control panel) or by clicking on the wireless icon by the clock and setting it up through there.
it should be fairly similar for vista and windows 7 (i don't have a box running vista or 7, so can't check it)0 -
how many characters did it let you type in 43?, 63 or 64?
It's probably easier to hook the new laptop up with a network lead, login to the router, and copy the ascii wpa key from the router wireless screen into the clipboard, and paste it in.!!

Manually connect to a wireless network ( Box )
Network name : Done
Security type : Choices : no authentication open - WEP - WPA2 Personal - WPA Personal - WPA2 Enterprise - WPA Enterprise - 802.ix Chose WPA Personal
Encryption Type : Choices - TKIP or AES Haven't chosen yet?????
Security Key/Passphrase : the long password shown above that wouldn't fit
That's where I'm at.0 -
Lets start from the beginning, which router? And do you have a network cable?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
Router : Netgear DG834GSP V3
Stupid question for you - what do you mean by network cable ?0 -
Do this on your working pc, in a browser type this address:
http://192.168.0.1
username is admin (if you are on virgin adsl, default username is virgin, it may be different if from another isp)
password is password
click wireless screen
If you have a lead like this, they come with the router, then you can use the new laptop instead.

Ok this is what I got.
I used the network key EEVDWVEBCV but the new lappy still isn't connecting.
Don't give up on me, I'll try tomorrow - but right now I've spent all evening trying to sort it and I'm sick and tired of it.
Will have a go again tomorrow.0 -
