Need help as I'm a plonker.
Have a new laptop. We have a router which the old laptop can still get access from. The new lappie can see a network but can't get in (security). From memory I had to give the old lappy the SSID and code (can't remember what it's called). I've looked on the old lappy and can't find the info anywhere - it has a 'nework' number but don't think it's the SSID. Can't find the info on the router either, it's years old.
Basically help ! I know this info is somewhere, but I can't see/find it. Can anyone give me a step-by-step ( ie idiot's guide ) on how to get this info & get it onto the new lappy so that it can access the wireless signal ?

If you have another working wireless pc, run this on it.

The SSID is just the wireless network name. To connect, you choose the correct wireless network from those available on your laptop, then enter the correct encryption key. Think of the SSID as the address of the house, then the encryption key is your front door key to get you in.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've run that program and it's given me : network name - key type - key (hex)
I assumed the 'key' was the passphrase ( it's below )
3917fc9aa7252f0e46cf28257ea2b03bc0b3bb4b877e53cc430d8c3ccc7f46bd Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection {20D34D76-64BB-45D8-95D3-5331A295A6B6}
So I'm in the new lappy ..... entered the network name ...... am entering the 'security key or passphrase' but too many characters - it seems to allow 43 characters and there's way more in the security key above ???
Have I got it wrong or what ?0 -

Can you step-by-step, tell me how to input the network name, key etc into the new lappy. I've found it before, tried it but it's hit and miss how/if/when I find it.0 -
Key type - WPA-PSK0

That's what you have to use on the laptop. (wpa-personal)!!
