My two golden rules about staying in ANY hotel (which I do pretty well every week,)
1. Hang out the "do not disturb" sign
2. Lock or snib the door. Keep it that way0 -
I stayed at the one that pretends to be near Luton airport - actually a £7 taxi ride away.
The room was completely unheated, in November, and had been used as a day rental and not cleaned afterwards. The bed was slept in on one side, and the bathroom! One bath towel was used and left on the floor, there was a suspicious gelatinous fluid in the bottom of the shower stall and shaving cream and stubble in the sink.
There was also a leaking rubbish bag overflowing with dirty nappies in the hallway. We asked to be moved and were told by the guy at the desk that he wasn't authorised to move us but someone could do it at 9am the following day (we had an early flight). We were given cleaning materials to sort the bathroom ourselves and told that there weren't any extra towels so we'd have to share. He suggested that we remake the bed and sleep on top of it if we were so bothered. He also refused to move the bag o'stench in the hallway.
My £9 wasn't even refunded, as far as I can remember, although I did complain vociferously. The head office said they were terribly sorry and they hoped it wouldn't put me off future stays.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

I've never heard anything about not being authorised to move you, and how everything was for you was handled totally unacceptably, even for £9. One thing though, the hotel is called 'Luton' not Luton Airport and the website states that the airport is 6 miles away, so they aren't really pretending to be an airport hotel.Male.

We have stayed in 5 London Travelodges, Chester, Manchester Central, Leeds Central,Liverpool, Manchester Airport, Brighton Seafront and Windsor all on £9 rooms and all with absolutely NO complaints!0

I`ve asked to move rooms a couple of times when first arriving at a TL because the room faced the main road and traffic noise and this was done without a problem.
I`ve also seen people ask for a ground floor room when given a 1st floor.
The staff are always helpful and will oblidge if they can.
I expect they do get abuse from the odd idiots which they have to grin and bare.0 -
We've stayed about 50 nights at TLs altogether, at Kew, Euston, Liverpool St, Aldgate, Tower Bridge, Alton, Emsworth, Sheffield, Liphook, London City Airport, Glasgow, Shrewsbury, Bristol, Uxbridge, Portsmouth, and many more (forgotten!)
In 50 stays only two problems. At Glasgow though I had booked a family room (there were only two of us but I like having the extra space and a sofa) on arrival profuse apologies: there was only a double available, even though I said it didn't matter a jot they gave us two breakfast vouchers worth £7.50 each. Funny thing is, we'd only paid £15 for the room!
The only real problem we had was when the fire alarm went off at Euston at 6am on a Sunday and I didn't think the staff handled it all that well. I asked the manager to phone me later, which he did, and I told him my concerns. Although I didn't ask for any compensation at all, to my astonishment he refunded us the whole 5 nights stay.
The staff have always been very helpful like bringing extra pillows and towels to the room, advising on where to eat locally, changing rooms to change the view etc.
From time to time I stay in more expensive hotels (at someone else's expense) and it always makes me laugh (cynically) when I witness that the difference between paying £19 and £100+ is a couple of biscuits on the tea tray and some little shampoos etc that I never use anyway because I bring my own.
I disagree with the poster who said TLs are for chavs. From my own experience most other guests are business people. Although when I stayed at Kew we met a ladies' rowing team there for a competition on the Thames.
At London City Airport in October we had a two-course dinner for £6 then a eat-all-you-want breakfast for £6. Where else could you get a meal that cheap in that vicinity?0 -
i was silly enough to book a couple of rooms at the Tolworth Travel Lodge for the 28th Dec.

I stay in TL's across the country for work purposes and agree with other posters that they can be hit and miss, alhtough in fairness mostly they are fine and are fit for the purpose they are intended."Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

hi
it was my vent and I stand by the comments, I appreciate that the hotel staff can have little impact on the way that guests act and treat the facilities, and that in life to a certain extent you get what you pay for. If the room was £9 it may have been value for money and my choosing to go elsewhere it only benefit those who are happy with TL.

All those that are griping about TL on this thread and others and saying "they will never stay at TL again", please, please keep to your promise, because that way there`ll be loads of £9 rooms in the next sale on 7th Jan for those that do like TL.
I totally agree! I look forward to the sales next week!:jQUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0
