Dishwasher under a sink- is it possible?

We've just had a plan done of our kitchen. I have wanted a dishwasher for ages. The sink is right under the window, next to where the door opens. There is 45cms of space next to the plumbing. At the moment we have a cupboard next to the cupboard with the plumbing in so I thought it would have been possible to have a dishwasher in that space, but apparently not. Does anyone have a dishwasher under their sink? Thanks for any help/advice

If you have a full size draining board it will fit under there.

Under the drainer part of the sink is fairly usual ..but not under the sink itself (sink and waste trap/pipe protrude too far into cupboard below). As your in the stages of planning your kitchen i'd be looking at it as a blank canvas and trying to get a full 600mm width dishwasher in. May mean relocating plumbing or moving the sink along slightly but now is the time to do it!

Thanks, that's what I thought, but the man at the diy store said that he couldn't find a cupboard that was the right size to put one in. The actual drainer is to the right of the sink at the moment (above the empty cupboard) so the space that I thought was ideal for a dishwasher would be under the drainer. He said that our kitchen is too small, apparently it's the size of a kitchen in a one bedroom flat- even thought the quote for our kitchen was £5100!

Which DIY store was that out of interest? sounds more like "we are too busy to bother making a decent plan for you" to me! My money is on B&Q!

I have one under mine...

But I suppose it depends on the positioning & size of your existing units.

& if you have a central little bowl/waste disposal thing between the sink & draining board that may cause a problem.

But as its a new design you can have what you want.

If there is space left use it as a towel rail or bottle rack etc at the end...

Yep, you're right. My husband went along because we didn't want to drag the little ones out with us, and he signed and paid a £50 deposit! Apparently we can cancel, but won't get the £50 back. In their quote they've even charged us for connecting a washing machine, and cooker which we've already got and is staying in the same place.

I've made an appointment to go to another store on Thursday (not B&Q) that's why I wanted to check about a dishwasher.

My dishwasher is under the draining board, always has been. Not sure who has done your plan but you can download a planner from Ikea, not suggesting to buy from there, input your current plan into the planner then shift things around at will.

I too have my dishwasher under the drainer part of the sink although it does extend further than the drainer.

£5100 sounds way too much including fitting. I wouldn't have paid £50 in the first place for a plan TBH. I'd be demanding my £50 back as they have failed to come up a plan that meets your criteria of fitting a dishwasher in!

I would recommend wickes kitchens (to-order stuff rather than takeaway) but whoever you go with just get a price for the units, worktops etc and find yourself a local kitchen fitter to fit for you. Appliances are generally best bought elsewhere.
