I would, uninstall that version, restart PC, wait a few moments then install another Version I would try 8 http://imagine-msn.com/messenger/launch80/?locale=en-gb as what ever error you get version wise shouldnt really matter.

Then restart PC after install, then give a whirl.

Right, I uninstalled version 7, re-started pc, installed ver 8 and re-started. It signed me in then froze up. Done the start/run thingy but still froze up after signing me in. I'm really frustrated now....

I agree, the window is very tempting.

Thanks ever so much for all your time and help tonight. I appreciate it.
Think I'll hit the hay too and send MSN a message, somehow, tomorrow.

Ok just to clarify before my next post.

What version are you now running, Have you a firewall besides a Windows Firewall, i.e Do you have Norton of any other software that has a Firewall Bundled, are you using XP is it upto date?

    Please answer all questions

Try disabling Windows Messenger a mo,

Start, Control Panel, add/remove programs, then click on add/remove Windows Components and in their untick Windows Messenger then click OK, or if already unticked put a tick in their.
