I tried to use my new mastercard debit card at the post office and they refused to take it saying it was a credit card. Guess whose bank is going to get a rollicking tomorrow? Has anyone else had this prob?

Why is the bank going to get a rollicking?
  • I asked them for a good reason to change from maestro to mastercard and I was told it would make things easier for me!

  • Yes it does, I let the assistant in the P.O. see the hand held which was on my side of the counter but she said her screen says it is a credit card

Complain to the Post Office. It is their fault.

That old chestnut id report it to your bank im aware there is ongoing issues with the new cards. Im presuming retailers have updated there BIN databases incorrectly to register it a credit card rather than a debit card.

Why is your bank going to get a rollicking? It isn't their fault. Also, my post office takes credit and debit cards. Why doesn't yours?

    Silly of them.

    Quite right too.

Here's how I'd go about it:

    1) I'd storm in to the bank and go to the young girl on the welcome desk and yell at her about how f***ing ridiculous it is that your card was rejected somewhere else and demand that she resolves the matter, even though she's only worked there for 3 months and is more worried about the row she had with her boyfriend last night.

    2) I'd then demand to speak to the manager NOW because he is clearly responsible for the policies of the bank, Mastercard, the Post Office and the British Government and in a position to negotiate an end to the conflict in Sudan.

    3) When the manager arrives I'd tell him what a useless buffoon he is and shout to him that I'm going to stand there in the public area of the branch until he solves things for me. I'd shout again, demanding action and repeatedly scream "Sort it now or there'll be big trouble".

    4) When he has failed to placate me and has given up trying to reason with me and walked away I'd stand just inside the branch door and start telling all the customers about how useless the bank is because the Post Office refused to accept my card.

    5) When either the police or the shopping centre security guards arrive to drag me away I'd continue yelling obscentiites about bad products and being a taxpayer who personally owns a large percentage of the bank in question and as such is entitled to around 43% or 85% of the contents of the safe.

    6) Once I've been sectioned indefinitely I'd then consider whether or not my actions were balanced and reasonable and wonder about the best ways of convincing the psychiatrists that I should be released.

(On more than one occasion in my bank manager days similar situations occurred. No "taxpayer" comments back then, and I don't know if these fools got sectioned or not, but the generic scenario has been real enough!).
