mastercard debit

MasterCard debit is a better card, it is accepted in more places internationally than maestro however it is very new to the uk so some retailer will not be ready yet.
Another issue (and I did check today) is that international debit cards were normally processed as credit cards as they attracted a high fee so this could well explain why it is causing problems. Non- uk maestro on mc debit were always processed as cc'sThese are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

Doesn't explain why The Post Office didn't accept it though. They have always accepted all Credit or Debit cards apart from Amex whenever i've used them.0 -

The OP didnt tell us what they were paying for and the post office will only accept debit cards for certain transactions like car tax renewals etc. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

It would also be an issue if it comes with the Readycash account and they wanted a balance or cash. They need to move quick to recitfy it, its not rocket science.0

I'm guessing it must have been something like a tax disc renewal or bill payment the OP was trying to do as you can only do these with a debit card at the Post Office.
If this happens again, you can ask the cashier to do a cash withdrawal from your card as these still work fine with the Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank Debit Mastercards. It will come off your daily ATM limit, but I suppose it's better than being left unable to pay.0 -

Unable to see quite what advantage the new card was giving me [!] I asked if I could reject it and hold on to my Maestro card. She suggested contactiong my branch in the New Year [which I suspect may have been a way of getting rid of me...]
Did you get told how to even contact your branch? All YB branch phone numbers have been replaced by their contact centre!0 -
3 months ago I recieved a MasterCard Debit card which replaced a Maestro card for my one and only bank account - Clydesdale Bank Curent Account. However I've been having problems using it online. Paypal doesn't have it as an option. Neither does Amazon or American Express. I had only tried those three up until this morning when I tried to pay a Scottish Hydro Electric bill with it and, again, it isn't an option. I phoned up SHE to enquire why they didn't accept cards from a major Scottish bank and got told that they will only change their system to accept those cards when a significant proportion of banks/customers issue/use those new cards.
He said he'd send me out a swipe card which i can use at paypoint outlets to pay my bills for the forseeable future, but that defeats the purpose of having an online account with SHE!
I feel as tho I have went back to 1995 in terms of facilities to make payment!!!
Frankly I'm fed up with this useless card already. When is this going to be generally acceptable? Shouldn't they have made it generally acceptable THEN started issuing the cards as opposed to the other way round?0 -

Infact, I shall see your mal-informed post, and raise you three pictures of DEBIT MasterCards.

Perhaps you should learn to read the whole thread before going off on one? If you'd taken the time to read a few posts down he says and I quote: 'I stand corrected'
Perhaps an apology is in order?0 -
I am waiting for my Clydesdale Maestro to be replaced - I'm actually pleased as Maestro is of little use outside of the UK/Europe. In the last year I have taken my Maestro card to the UAE and Singapore - no use in either country apart from ATMs. You also get more consumer protection with debit Mastercard than you do with Maestro (in the same way that Visa debit does)
As a merchant myself I was notified by my service provider (Barclays) of the imminent arrival of debit Mastercard in late 2008 and have had several communications about it since then. There is really no excuse for any merchant, Post Office included, not to be ready for Debit Mastercard in the circumstances.
Under the terms of my merchant agreement (1) I am contractually obliged to accept debit Mastercard for any transaction that I accept other card types for, and (b) I am charged for a debit Mastercard at exactly the same price and in the same manner as I am charged for a Maestro or Visa debit/Electron.
I guess what I am saying is the fault here lies entirely with the merchant, not the bank - as much as I hate defending banks!
My own view is that with Clydesdale/Yorkshire switching to debit Mastercard and with RBS Natwest and HSBC switching to Visa debit the days of Maestro and very numbered indeed. I reckon in two years time the card type will have fallen into disuse.0
