  • Went to visit my sister in Cambridge yesterday, and Mum always insists on going to Lidl... so I bought 2 x HUGE concentrated Lenor (£3 each or 2 for £5), 2 x surface wipes for toilet seat etc (£1.19 each), 2 x thick bleach for toilet (49p each), fabric freshener spray (99p), and two toohbrushes for DS (99p), total of £10.34... but I forgot my purse, so Mum paid :D Then I needed to get a couple of bits in Boots, and she needed something, so I paid for that... £7.07 in total... so I saved £3.27 :D

What a waffle!! In short, I spent £7.07 yesterday :o

I'd like to join please :-)
It will be hard but my budget for January will be £35 - that's for food only and doesn't count any household stuff or food bought outside the home to eat there and then (e.g coffees, snacks). I have a very full storecupboard and freezer, I live on my own, and I have the advantage of not having a very big appetite, so if I cook a meal meant for two, I usually get three portions out of it.

I've spent £21 already, but that did include a big bag of rice, jar of Marmite, and enough fruit and veg for a couple of weeks. So if I'm careful I should be ok, will only need to buy fresh stuff, bread and milk for the rest of the month.

  • Hi

After reading through this thread I am really going to try hard to stick to a budget. Please may I join? Please could I be put down for £320 per month - this does not include petrol. It's for 2 adults, dd17, dd21 and dd20 who is away at uni but comes home in the holidays. I also have 2 guinea pigs and 2 dogs.

I am about to give up work to spend more time with my husband (he is retired)who has been unwell and depressed. It is a case of getting finances in order or getting into debt.

cw18 please could someone let me have a copy of the spreadsheet?

    Thank you x

Hoping for another NSD today - we have no need to go to the shops (and I have no desire to go out of the house having woken with a bad headache that has now been dulled into submission with DH's loving care, cups of tea and a toasted bagel). Tea tonight will be Weightwatcher's Lamb Tikka (in my cookbook but I can't find the recipe online...) with some salad and bread and butter. Lunch will be a bacon sandwich, I'd say, or a small omelette with a bit of salad. Hoping so, as we've only got one rasher of bacon left and the offcut bacon I buy isn't brilliant for butties. Still, I'll have a look in the freezer and see - if it means a little bit of knifework is called for rather than a supermarket trip, I'll give it a go. :)

The kebabs we're having for tea are such a favourite it'll be bliss to make them and they won't last. Plus, there's the added bonus of anything not getting eaten making the most fantastic sandwiches (although they might end up in a salad) for either DH's or my lunch tomorrow - yay! Last night's chilli is now in the fridge covered in cling film waiting for recycling tomorrow night into a pasta bake. :)

    Have a good day, everyone.

Have had yet another spend day here  Needed some veg for dinner today so popped to Mr T but only got what I needed. I did make £0.33 as I got charged for bananas instead of parsnips (banans are cheaper per kg) so for once I got undercharged instead of over ! :j

All food is now in for the week and pack-up things so hopefully I'll not need to buy anything for at least 3 days.

Clelmt - all I'll be doing is cooking some pasta and then draining it. While the pasta is in the colander, put the leftover chilli into the saucepan (no point creating more washing up than necessary ;) ) and heat it until it regains its sauce consistency - adding a little water if it needs it. Then, just add the pasta bake to it and mix it all together, making sure all the pasta is covered. Put it into a baking dish, sprinkle with grated cheese and bake it for 20 mins or so until the cheese has melted. :) I like it with ends of bread and a good tv programme on. :)

  • nsd for me today, 'shopped' from the shed (the veg and fruit bought xmas eve as whoopsies has all kept ok out of it's packaging in cardboard boxes covered with newspaper.
Guests for lunch so we're having roast dinner, apple crumble made by dd with icecream, and not one trip to a shop!
My aim this month is not only to keep to my budget, but also to see if i can recoup some of my huge december overspend..

    all the best to everyone
