Hi all, I'm another one MIA for a while but 2010 is going to be a year of challenges for us so I'd like to join in again if I may ?? :D

I'll have to guesstimate January as I do have quite a bit in the freezer but I also like to stock up if something I use is on offer. I did a yearly budget before but I really ought to go back to monthly as a yearly one kept giving me an excuse to stockpile  :o :rotfl:.

I'm going to go for £300 in January (me, DH, 3 kids and a doggie). Good luck everyone !

Don't forget to pop down to your local stores on NY Eve, might pick up some bargains if they're closed on NYD .

Was MIA Nov and Dec - but stayed pretty much on track, am going for yearly budget in 2010 of £1200 - I was pleased to work out this year that I was around that figure and it makes it easier when I buy stuff when its on offer and lasts for ages, eg loo rolls, baked beans etc!:o This is for me and a cat with expensive taste (although she only has it when its on offer :money:) and the family round for sunday lunch every couple of months.

    Good luck everyone!
  • Hello again, can you put me down again for £200 in January, came under budget in December BUT that was helped enormously by my month running from the 20th. January is going to be a real struggle. defrosted my freezer yesterday though and its now shiny and bright with everything in order and a drawer for complete meals/fish/vegetables/puddings and needs eating so feeling I am in with a chance. Good luck to all.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!
  • Well, last year we spent £4841 according to spreadsheets, although there were definite bits and bobs out of my purse at times so maybe nearer £5k.
Soooo although it's not nearly as good as some it's probably realistic to go for £4500 for this year. Please could I change to annual? I think it might make me focus more..:o

Having said that we've already gone and blown £268 in Costco towards 2010 and I have a ridiculously large Tesco shop due tomorrow and a veg box this afternoon.
However. That should keep us going for a considerable amount of time and do NYE party and hopefully most of the first part of Jan. I'm going to try to make sure I cancel any fruit and veg boxes I don't think we'll get through so as not to waste as I was a bit lapse at the end of last year and ended up with bits going in the bin and as i have NOOOOO freezer space after buying meat at costco there won't be any space for soup etc for a while

    Happy New Year everyone!!

  • I'm joining this month:) OH says we need to tighten our belts a bit (mine's already feeling tight :o).

We are 2 adults and 3 kids aged 14, nearly 13 and 9.

I'm allowing £70 a week for food. My month will run from Jan 4th to Jan 31st. So that's £280 plus £20 for household items making

    £300 in January

Wine is not included- that comes from a separate pot :D

Good morning all, please may join in with this challenge, it is one of my new years resolutions to actually complete a whole month of a grocery challange!!!!! Well as Christmas is now out of the way got to seriously tighten the purse strings for a biiiiiiiiggggg project in Dec 2010.

I think as I really have no idea how much I spend each month I am going to keep all my reciepts and I am going for £300 I hope it is not actually that much, but I guess it is better to over estimate!

    Many thanks

I'm back too, and ready for a New Year. There was a lot of random food buying in October and November after I was widowed, but I did try and take it in hand in December. I think I have it sorted out now, and I need to save up for some of the work still to be done on this [STRIKE]wreck[/STRIKE] lovely old house.

January is a 4 week month for me, and to break myself in gently, I'm going to start the year on £40 a week for me, a 5 year old and a [STRIKE]grey furry terrorist[/STRIKE] small cat, so that's £160 for me please.
  • I think I would like to join in with the challenge this month........

My budget is £250 for 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog

    Morning All

Please can you put me down for £300 for January. This is to include all food, alcohol for DH, dog food, toiletries and cleaning/laundry for 2 adults and 2 dogs.

I am not expecting to spend this much as we have 2 freezers full of food, some dog food and a cupboard full of toiletries but the £300 is calculated as 5 weeks of my annual budget so this amount will keep me on track.

DH is wanting to go on a diet next week so I am trying to come up with some healthy meal ideas using up what we have got in. I suppose that means I will have to eat all the Christmas chocs, cake, yule log etc that are still lurking about. It's a tough job but someone's got to do it:D
