Thanks so much - I'm 22 hours and 19 minutes into it and it's getting easier as the day goes on!

So much so, that neither DH or kids have even noticed that I gave up (seriously!!!). I smoke(d) about 10 - 15 per day, so you'd think that they might have cottoned on by now!

D'you know - the one thing I've really appreciated though is that my hair doesn't stink (I've got really long hair which I have to tie up at night because I can't bear the smell of it).

  • I would get those eggs eaten straight away.

I was reading somewhere that eggs shouldn't be eaten after their use by date.

Eggs and dairy I was told should be eaten in date.
  • I hope others can come back to you with meal suggestions.

To be honest with you, I am the same, not that great at cooking, but I was given this recipe to use up brown bananas and it could do your eggs too.

    Banana muffins
    Mash 4 medium sized bananas.

Mix or blend together 4 oz soft marg, 4 oz light brown caster sugar, 2 beaten eggs, 6 oz SR flour, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda and a pinch of salt.

Add the bananas and mix well.

Pour into muffin cases bake at 160 for 30 mins

Do you think the muffins would freeze and could then be used for later in the month for lunch boxes?? I've not got any sugar at all in the house except icing sugar - what do you think, worth a go???
  • Hi everyone, first time joining the grocery challenge. Can you put me down for £250 to include, groceries, milkman and toiletries. Have no idea if this is a realistic budget for two adults and two young children but we will soon find out. Thanks

2 packets of uncooked diced turkey
    1 packet pork mince
    1/2 pkt frozen onions
    Full pkt veggie mince
    Full pkt veggie bacon bits
1 pkt smoky bacon I'd be tempted to get these cooked up and frozen into "meal-sized" portions (that is enough for your family to eat at a meal, rather than individual portions ;) ). You can add grated root veg, or whatever veg is cheap, or lentils to bulk them out.

Loads of bread / crumpets / pancakes etc.

    Loads of ice-lollies!
    4 Birds Eye Chicken Steaks

    4 pkts fish pie sauce

Lots of butter / marg / trex - enough to last month
    1 pkt cheddar slices
    1/2 pkt duck pate
    1 pkt cheese spread

I'm not sure that would work  How about serving the bananas with pancakes :D You could then melt some of your chocs over for an instant chocolate sauce :T

As you have no sugar, but plenty of sweet snacks, I'd concentrate your spending on filling main courses for the time being.
