I should really only need to buy milk, fruit and "fridge stuff" this month, as my freezer and cupboards are full. I'm also off to a good start, as when the driver delivered my asda shop this week, it had obviously been left in the rain at some point. This caused the cat litter bag to split and spill all over my hall and front path. When I rang customer services, as well as refunding the cat litter, they refunded the delivery charge, and gave me a £5 goodwill credit too, so I have £8.50 sitting on my account to use.

I only usually use the delivery service at Christmas when I have ds off school, but in the interests of economy, I may be persuaded to use it next week to use up my credits.

Morning all and a Happy New Year!

Popped to M&S last thing yesterday afternoon armed with a £14 gift card left over from our wedding presents. OH and I agreed to use it to buy anything we fancied to finish off the Honeymoon/Xmas/New Year period before we go back to the slog of work.
Managed to get quite a few whoopsies and one or two full priced bits we wanted - went over the £14 by £3ish so will add the surplus to my total.

On the plus side we have a honey roast gammon joint for OH's dinner today (and sandwiches etc later), cheese and onion bakes for me, fancy mash, green beans and crumbles and custard for for both of us, reduced breaded hadddock (Freezer), 3x reduced ready meals (lasagne and moussaka) (freezer), and a few other bits and pieces.

I've also written the menu plan and the shopping list for the weekend trying to make what we have "fit" meals, if you see what I mean. I did a freezer and cupboard inventory too and have more than I thought.
I'm hoping to spend about £25 realistically at Mr T's on mainly fresh stuff and a few ingredients to go with what we already have. We'll see......

Can you add me to the list please? I'm new to this so don't have a proper budget but i'm going to go with £200 for January and then look at my receipts as suggested to come up with a proper budget.

Can I join in too please. I need to do a "big shop" as our cupboards are nearly empty but we do have a fair bit of stuff in the freezer. I'm going for £200 to start with.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone
i would like to join this challenge, I am really bad at this. I need some inspiration and lots of help, please! Also I dont know what limit to set myself, I have around £300-350, but I am always over spent, and overdrawn. I would love to be able to budget, keep the recipts, but nothing really comes of it. So heres to a challenge.

    great thread btw

  • Happy New Year to everyone,

I have just caught up with thread, so will belatedly thank carolt2, rosieben and poppy-glo for replying to my query re freezing cream. (and anyone else I have missed who may also have done so)

Going to make dinner at my mother's house today but after today I don't think we have any more meals out or in with guests planned, so after today I am buckling down to making an inventory and meal plan. I mean business this month (famous last words!!)

Good luck to everyone and I hope this year proves kind to you and yours.

Happy New Year everyone and a big welcome to all the newbies joining us.

Didn't get home until 4am as we were at friends for a curry evening and several quizzes. DH still snoring his head off and DS1 hasn't surfaced yet either.

I've just been onto mysupermarket.com and the small shop I plan to do tomorrow is showing as £24.52. Will update total tomorrow afternoon.

    Have a good day everyone.
