I lose my internet connection every day

Sorry. I've obviously caused confusion. The router is a linksys Wireless G 2.4GHz. I got the other info off a CD I have in the drawer which must have come from an old PC.
Ah, I see. I was thinking along the lines of the two wireless devices interfering with each other - but that's not the case now.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
So still none the wiser

With respect stuartk, changing the wifi channel will not help because the wireless devices are working ok, it is only the wired connection that is intermittent.
Flyer, I believe your router would have 4 ethernet ports? You could try plugging your computer into a different port. You could also try a different ethernet cable. Finally, you could see if your router has the latest firmware.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -

I will try all 3 options, but can you just tell me how I do this?Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0 -
I still don't know which model you have, but once you have entered the router's setup pages there should be a section which will tell you which version of firmware is installed. You may have to look quite deep for it though.
The Linksys website provides the latest firmware for each model.
What I would say though is PLEASE ask someone who is in the know if you decide to upgrade the firmware. If it is not done correctly you will end up with an expensive paper weight.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
I wouldnt worry too much about the firmware judging by the model of router you have - they are pretty reliable - I would expect the wireless function to be one of the first things to go - not the ethernet connection.
Could be a faulty ethernet cable - Try another ethernet cable between the PC and Router.
Faulty Ethernet Port ?- Try a different ethernet port on the Router (there should be 4 on the back and then the internet port going to the modem).
Faulty Ethernet Adapter on PC? If you have another Ethernet port on the back of the PC - Try another one -
Also you can check the status lights on the ethernet ports on the router and PC (small LED's that are next to the port on the PC or on the front of the router)
Orange light means that the port is trying to connect / set up
Green light means the port has connected and is ready
Flashing green light means the port is transferring data
If the light is green then turns orange or goes out for no reason while you are connected to the internet then you may have a problem somewhere.
Finally (for now) you could bypass the router completely by plugging the PC directly into the modem with an ethernet cable - If doing it this way you cure the connection problems then there is likely a problem with the router.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
