I can't see anything that could be a channel changer

Surely the Linksys is the wireless bit?

From reading above posts, I would say that this is not so. The wireless bit is your router. The Linksys would switch off when you power down your main computer - so how are the other items still connecting?
What make and model is the router you are using? If we can confirm it is supplying the wireless connection then you would be able to dispense with the Linksys.

But the Linksys is the router or am I missing something? It says on it "Wireless Router"

If you mean on the router itself, then there is nothing.

    No

When you login to the router I mean

put 192.168.1.1 into IE and login

    Regards
  • The WMP54G is a wireless card, not a router, and would be fitted inside your computer. It can be set to allow Internet Connection Sharing, but this will only be available when your main computer is switched on.
You said you had a modem going to a router, then to the PC. It is this router I am asking about.

    Hi There

Can you change the channel that your router is broadcasting wifi on?

    Regards

As I understand it the problem is with the 'main PC' whoch is connected to the router via ethernet. The wireless devices do not have a problem so changing the wireless channel won't help.

    OP

I have also experienced some problems with my Virgin Broadband since moving to Windows 7. It's not happening as frequently as yours appears to be but every now and again I lose connection and have to power cycle the router although mine is a netgear.

So far I haven't found a resolution for it, if I do find anything i'll post here.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Sorry. I've obviously caused confusion. The router is a linksys Wireless G 2.4GHz. I got the other info off a CD I have in the drawer which must have come from an old PC.

I've just tried that and got a message " Authentication Required." A username and password is required.
