The Great Declutter Part 2

greent - Thanks for your explanation. Decluttering is such a big topic so I will narrow it down to an August challenge whereby I can discover how the process will be money-saving.
Perhaps set yourself a target of listing X amount of items in Aug on ebay/ amazon/ local free ads etc? You could run it alongside a 'not buying any more of this until I've used this up' challenge (as in No spends on toiletries - lots of MSE-ers have stashes from BOGOFs etc.) The other thing where decluttering can be MSE is finding something that you thought was lost (thereby saving you the cost of a replacement) or which can be turned to an alternative useI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

Thats a great post, greent.
Aw, thanks, Karmacat!!:D
just a quick edit to add that I've got rid of some assorted gibble from DS2's room, a broken wicker basket, a broken wooden box and a small pile of unwanted paperwork from DD's ensuite(!)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Eek to paperwork in *anybody's* ensuite :rotfl:
I've listed these before, so I can't give it numbers, but its actually left the house now - four CD racks, and three sets of Babylon 5 micromachines. I can't tell you what a relief it is to get them and their packaging (**huge**) out of the way!
And also:
53. an amazon sale and its packaging. Hurray! And this is a book I bought when I was about 15, which is a very long time ago :rotfl:
54. 4 old Radio Times - including one with a rather fetching black and white dalek on the front
55. new magazine, in and out in one day!
56. assorted dreck that was listed on ebay about four times, its not coming to the new house with me, and needs to go now - I don't have any more time to faff around with potential sales on ebay - theatre programmes (Martha Graham, Ewan McGregor, and two annual ones for the Shakespeare Festival in Ontario.)2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
One bootful of rubbish and recycling to tip today. If the bin men don't come tomorrow I'm going to go bananas. Our food waste and recycling has been out for a week now and maggots were crawling everywhere by Monday- yeurgh.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

The bulk waste people have come and gone, very early in their timeslot, thanks guys. So:
57. One very old double mattress.
58. 3 full length wardrobe doors.
Total cost: £27, the doors were half price (it never hurts to ask!). Much cheaper than hiring a skip.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I managed to fill 3 charity bags for the collection, and they have just been collected, I also had a load of their empty bags which haven't been collected previously, so I put them in one of the bags so they can re-use them and it also gets them out of the way.
Talked to DP about the coats and stuff he's got in his wardrobe, (which have been in there for years without being worn) and he said he will check them over the weekend, and whatever he will never use can go to charity. Also in his wardrobe are 2 old video recorders, (1 is a museum piece, lol, which he wants to keep as it might be worth money in the future!) an old set top box, a couple of holdalls which have electrical accessories and tools in them, and an old shoe box with bits and bobs in it. All this needs to find new homes, and then he can use his wardrobe for clothes which he does wear, and he won't have to have his clean clothes in a pile on the floor!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Ohh when an opportunity presents itself... I got a charity bag too! It came on Wednesday so I filled it up along with two others and it has been taken this morning! I just wish I had had more time between Wednesday and this morning to fill a few more. It's rare we get any decent charity bags. Some look really dodgy non-charities but this one was for Help the Aged and Age Concern and a bona fide van drove past to pick it up. I'm well chuffed.

All my ebay sales have gone out of the house (except the one that hasn't been paid for, on a Sunday evening sale). Still, its a result!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Thanks for suggesting these ideas as targets. I've already done much of the selling of items, don't tend to bring much in to the house but your last idea seems interesting.
Anyway so far -
Using up "old" food ingredients and freezer items therefore a new interest reading how to use them.
Sorting out old files so reducing info and discovering what is still of interest.
Recycling paper/cardboard (bin, composting and scrap paper).
Old clothing into rags.0
