I've found it interesting to see how much OOD food has been decluttered this past week or so.

How many of us use OOD items (eg I have a pack of muesli base in my cupboard that's OOD, but I'm gradually using it up in crumbles. I have a pack of OOD sultanas that are being used in fruit crumbles/ charlottes too) (and more hiding away.....:o) I've just used a pineapple that I bought (whoopsied) about a month ago - I've chopped it for use in tonight's sweet and sour, and I'll use some for pizza tonight (if DS1 leaves any once he knows it's there!)

I hate throwing food away (that's not to say that I never do) but just wondered how many of us regularly end up throwing OOD items, and if so, why? Conversely (sp?!) how many of us use OOD items (esp without our families knowledge!!)

I'm obviously not talking about eating/ using anything rank/ mouldy etc...:D

I have been guilty of throwing out a few OOD food items in my mass declutter including some packet mixes from 2006!!! However as a rule I tend to use up OOD items where I can including the jelly we had for pudding the other night that was way out of date.

If it smells alright, comes out of a sealed packet / tin (ie hasn't been opened) or there are bits in the fridge I find a way of using them up. It also depends on what it is I suppose too..... I'm all for eating OOD stuff though generally.

(Whispers.... I also feed my OH / friends OOD items but tend to tell them after the event)..... But I'm obviously careful as I wouldn't want to make them sick!!
