I wish you'd take this as seriously as I am!!!! This is important!!!

I think that you misunderstand me - the salad days are gone - there is NOTHING more important to me than my rite to define char-grilled peppers, onions and courgette DRESSED in Balsamic & Olivie Oil as SALAD!!!
You mayo or not believe me - I am not trying to egg you on, please do not beet(root) me, I know at times I can be a bit of a crouton but I am not chicken even if you kick me up the asparagus.
Lettuce shake parmeshands and get SALAD defined together.0 -
Oh dear - MSE has experienced it's first discussion-induced-mental-breakdown... and on a thread started by Martin too!! Tsk, tsk!

Isn't beetroot always cooked before it is added to a salad? If your definition is raw veg or fruit that means it can not be a salad ingredient.HOW MUCH CAN YOU SAVE?: OLYMPIC CHALLENGE 2007BRONZE 10% SILVER 25% GOLD 50% PLATINUM 75%January 7%February 13%March 20%April 27%May 32%June 39%July 45%August 54%September 62%October 68%0

Beetroot is such a versatile root can be grated raw, boiled, pickled or chutneyed (hmm reminds me of my stag night!)
Still - if it aint dressed it aint salad it's just naked veg or fruit.
Cheers

I eat my salad undressed, sometimes add a dressing but I love raw veg and if it's fresh and tasty who needs oil and vinegar?0

MrSmartprice wrote:If you think a salad should be various ingredients, don't order salads in Greece. A Greek salad has several ingredients but if you order a "tomato salad" that's what you get - a plate of sliced tomatoes.
True, with a brobdingnagian chunk of Feta cheese on top. Where in the title does it mention that? It never says "Tomato & Feta salad" but you get it nonetheless. Is it a freebie?

Some years ago my wife & her sister ordered a Garlic Salad on the island of Skopelos and, when it arrived, it proved to be.... a plate of pureed garlic !
(I don't think either of them pulled, that night...)
It's all Greek to me.Expect the worst & hope for the best...0 -
I'm just making a bean salad - these MUST be cooked and I will DRESS them too.
That reminds me..
A: What's THAT?
B: It's Bean Salad!
A: Yes, but WHAT IS IT NOW???!!!

We've been here before Matt :rotfl:
The beans are cooked but served cold, and there is more than one type , so together they constitute salad.
The dressing, as ever, is an optional extra.
