How can grilled veg become a salad:confused: . Wouldn't that be like saying the cooked peas, cauli, carrots on a dinner are also salad??? .

I agree with the others it has to be at least 2 ingrediants. Otherwise it is just lettuce or cucumber and not salad

    Exactly! ;)

:o OK, lets not get carried away and start bullying mattogier over his food preferences.....

I am actually in a pickle (quite literally), after having beetroot and pickled onions as a side dish to my lunch. By my earlier definition, they would have constituted 'salad', but that doesn't seem right - they were pickles!!! Definitely pickles!!

(At least they weren't grilled though.... then it would have been really ridiculous to call them salad..... :D )

But if you dressed them with mayo and a bit of seasoning then would they become a salad - not a nice one admittedly to my taste.

QED the DRESSING makes a salad.

They were cooked though (and you can grill beetroot BTW) and then DRESSED in vinegar - actually they are preserves, like jam!

    Oh yes...

Egg salad using raw eggs would just be awful!

    LOL....

but the point is, they would be served cold!!! And anyway, what precisely is 'egg salad' - if it is egg served with salad (ie, two-or-more-mixed-cold-items-which-may-or-may-not-include-dressing), then the egg is incidental to the salad and therefore whether or not is cooked is irrevelvant.

If the egg is 'dressed' then it is egg mayonnaise, most likely, which goes nicely with salad, but which is not in itself a salad dish....

My pickles, I have decided, stop being salad because the act of pickling them changes them somehow..... I think? Once pickled, they are no longer raw and salads must be raw.. Except that doesn't work because potato salad isn't raw....

    Aaaagh! I give up!!

Neither is that stuff that Hinze used to do in a tin I think with Peas, Carrots and a few other non-descript root veg in a salad cream and mayo sauce - called...

Vegetable Salad :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Supose we are no closer to defining SALAD for Martin (Except I believe that it should be dressed in an oil and / or vinegar dressing!
