TV licence and signal quality.

Options
My parents have recently moved to an area where TV reception is poor. There is no chance of getting any kind of digital signal and the analogue signal receives only 3 channels which have shadows, the picture jumps and is generally fuzzy. It isn't an aerial issue, almost everybody in the town seems to have satellite dishes and it seems generally accepted that the terrestrial signal is useless.

Now I'm guessing here that while there is an obligation on people to pay for a TV licence, there is no obligation on the authorities to provide a strong enough signal for people to view even the 5 analogue channels in return for that licence payment?

Is there any means to complain about signal quality at all? Or is it just a case of as long as the public will pay they can be treated with contempt?

Your points, althouhg interesting, got you lost.

If you go VM or SKY, you will get perfect BBC signals, so you have no argument.

    BBC1, BBC2 and ITV1.

I had a similar one and due to water pouring down the inside of the cable I recently replaced the aerial with a new style, different cabling and much smaller so being big and well above the house doesn't necessarily make it capable of receiving better signals nowadays.

If you're on about solid, foam core cables instead of the honeycombe air core, then it's not new,it's been used in the Cable TV side for decades.
Known as RG59 or the thicker RG6.
