I am not sure why you have worded this reply as if I am a fool for asking a question????
I an no expert on pc matters, and have tried many things to cure the problems via google searches... so I was just asking a question if Vista could be the problem so as to eliminate it.
Do be over sensitive. It was worded to stop you wasting your time and money on a new OS when there are others avenues which can be explored at no cost. Wasn't sure why you appeared to be being encouraged to upgrade to Windows 7 without exploring the more obvious avenues.
I guess you've let your hurt feelings get in the way of saying thank you.0 -
If you are concerned that it is an OS or more properly; a Driver problem, use a Free Live CD Operating System such as Ubuntu to test it.
For users who are unable to diagnose this kind of problem with out help, the use of a Live CD is going to be like hell on earth. This user can "tobogan down a small slope when there is a shimmering of snow" your asking them to do the equivilent of skiing down the black slopes.
Where did you buy it from? Take it back and tell them its not fit for purpose and get it fixed under warrenty.0 -

First of all you have not hurt my feelings, I just feel its a shame someone with your post count could not have worded a reply a little better.
If in fact you were trying to tell me not to waste my time and money you could have put "No Vista is not the problem".
What you did was answer my question "Could Vista be causing these problems" with another question "Why would Vista cause these problems?" which would lead someone to think they were being stupid for thinking that it might.
As I said I am no expert and would not have asked if I knew the answer.
I have thanked many people on here for there help and have also been thanked myself, but I never answer a question in the hope of getting a thank you, sorry if you feel let down.0 -

I brought it from PC World, and to be honest I can't really do without it for any length of time which is why I have been trying to sort it out myself as opposed to taking it back.
It is not something that happens all the time, maybe a few times a week.0 -
Just one important caveat about the (potential) upgrade to Windows 7. If you do decide to upgrade (and the problems still exist) PC World could fall back on the disclaimer: warranty void as existing OS been removed (or such wording affecting thus). If the warranty does indeed still stand, I'd be inclined to take it back...I understand your concern for laptop downtime but....Choices :cool:busenbust wrote:I would have taken the bloody thing back after three wks...hindsight :rolleyes20

The cursor sometimes has a mind of its own, jumping all over the screen. My problem is more when trying to place the mouse as I drag it round the screen it jumps back to where it started from or to another part of the screen.
Have you still got the recovey CDs? If so I'd suggest backing up all your data, inserting them, rebooting, reinstalling Vista and taking things from there. To start with at least. Test everything, install one of your old applications, test and so on.0 -

Yes choices..:) Maybe I will have a chat with them also. I doubt I would tackle any OS change myself anyway.0 -

I have never tried it with a USB mouse, so only with touch pad up to this point.
As for reinstalling everything.... again I am not sure I would want to tackle this. I guess if it came to that I would live with it and just swear alot.0 -

Lol, you really should not have to. I wonder if HP directly could resolve this problem for you? Worth contacting them direct ?0 -

Yes it is something I should do, I guess sometimes we try to find a quick answer first as dealing with manufacturers can often be quite frustrating.
So my new years resolution shall be to be patient and understanding and trust HP or PC World to sort this out.
(why do I not feel very confident?)0
