Irratic laptop problems

Options
Hi all, I have a HP G60 running Vista.

I have had this about 8 months now and it is the worst laptop I have had due to numerous little glitch's.

The mouse pad is very over sensitive ( I ahve tried many things to remedy)
The cursor sometimes has a mind of its own, jumping all over the screen.

Start up is sometimes very slow other times not... sometimes not starting at all.

My main question is, is this more down to the machine or more due to VISTA??? I hear so many negative things about Vista I am wondering if I changed to Windows 7 it might help.

If so, is it easy to change?

Many thanks
Dave

Personally, I think you'd find the jump to Windows 7 a breath of fresh air. On initial purchase, were these problems you speak of quite apparent - or duly appeared over time?

I have had all these problems since about 3 weeks after I brought it, I have had 3 laptops over time and this one has been the worst.

But this is the only one that has had Vista.... wish I could have stayed with 98

I would have taken the bloody thing back after three wks...hindsight :rolleyes2

I suppose therefore a re-install of Vista would not be any kind of cure; as I inferred Windows 7 is what Vista should have been - and more;)

Just make sure the system requirements for Windows 7 tally with your laptop specs; should not be a problem I suspect

^^^ Edit: requirements are basically identical to the system requirements for Vista. IIRC ;)

Why on earth would the problems be due to having Vista? I certainly would want to spend £70 in order to find out that it doesn't make an iota of difference to a substandard machine.

I'm running Vista and don't have a cursor "jumping around" on an "over sensitive mousepad".

If you are concerned that it is an OS or more properly; a Driver problem, use a Free Live CD Operating System such as Ubuntu to test it.

Create the CD as per the instructions and boot from it. It will run in the system memory and therefore not interfere with any of your stored data.

If you find that the problems don't occur with Ubuntu, look for updated drivers for the errant products.

You should still be eligible for warranty if its under 12 months. I've just had my harddrive and motherboard replaced FOC. (I just got in there. My warranty had nearly expired!)

I am not sure why you have worded this reply as if I am a fool for asking a question????

I an no expert on pc matters, and have tried many things to cure the problems via google searches... so I was just asking a question if Vista could be the problem so as to eliminate it.

I will try this, but it suggests that this is to aid touching the pad by accident.

My problem is more when trying to place the mouse as I drag it round the screen it jumps back to where it started from or to another part of the screen.
I have already updated the drivers, run different checks, slowed the cursor speed down.

But also this laptop just does not run smoothly, it far to hard to describe in words, lots of little glitches... I have heard many people complain about Vista so it made me wonder if this was something others had experianced.
