Hi Guys,
Sorry if in wrong place, but I promised myself a new laptop with money from Christmas and not sure where are the best deals. I've been told to stay away from PC World and Currys etc, possibly trying dell. Anyone got any recommendations for me...I'd be most grateful!

Hello I bought my wife a 4GB 500 HDD Acer Aspire 5536 from Ebuyer, built in webcam and wireless. Windows Vista Home ... but for £12.80 you can apply to Acer to upgrade to Windows 7 home. I am awaiting the upgrade disc. Leass than £400.
The wireless adapter seems not to be as good as the previous Toshiba we had.
Hope this helps...0 -
Whats it to be used for ?
You need to take a look at a website / magazine like What Laptop and decide what you need before spending your cash on a one that may have too many/little features.Damned if you do.....Damned if you don't !?!0 -

I hope it's ok to highjack a topic, but I'm also looking for a laptop.
I wanted to talk to my daughter today on MSN and my desktop took 2½hours to load up the page, so I need one asap. One that will amaze me with it's speed please!!!!!!!:j
I tried to do some research before Christmas, but keep going round in circles. If possible, I want the laptop to take over from my desktop. I need it to have a DVD re-writer, with as much power as possible. I would like about a 15" screen, with plenty of outlets and would like to be able to link up to the tv. I just surf the net, have video calls to my family, and use the word processing and database packages. Also as I don't change very often I would like Windows 7 operation system. I looked at Packard Bell Easynotes and there are so many of them all slightly different, it's so bewildering.
I went to check out the shops a few weeks ago, Curry's seemed very helpful and knowledgeable about the subject, I was impressed. PC World, however just wanted to sell me their 'offer' machine. While Comet didn't even know I was in the store. I take my husband for some confidence backup!!!!! I also tried three local small independent stores, but they each only offered me one machine. I thought this was bizarre, they all said, this machine will do what you want and more - end of story.
I think I'll have to pay about £550 plus the wireless router for cable as I'm with Virginmedia, which is about £65. Does this sound about right?
Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

I brought this one Toshiba waiting for it to be delivered i notice its out of stock at the mo tho. Its got a good spec IMO and buying from JL gives you two years guarantee.:hello:"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing it doesn't go in a fruit salad0

Please don't buy ADVENT laptops. They are useless.
The ones that are on sale are laptops that have been returned because of defects. I bought 1 last yr and it was a total waste of money. The laptop shuts down when it heats up which happens very frequently. The currys helpdesk is next to impossible to access as well. AVOID ADVENT LAPTOPS0 -
This is a good deal on a Samsung machine here
If you use code REVIEW5 it will give you 5% off making it around £350 and can be used for collect in store purchase as well. Or if you want it delivered go thru Quidco as well
Not going to be a gaming machine at this price but if you want it for general browsing, word processing or to watch films it is a good deal. Comes with Windows 7 preinstalled
According to people on HUKD it is a T4300 processor as well not a T4200 as advertised0
