Ended up spending today, but not much on groceries...did find some Seville oranges, so making marmalade tomorrow. I hope to get more from my local greengrocer on Friday, as my marmalade stocks are starting to run low. DS2 has taken a liking for marmalade sandwiches...at nearly 17, he has turned into Paddington Bear, though not with a duffle coat!

A friend and I went to our nearest Cotton Traders shop which stocks end-of-range stuff. Got a lovely fleece jacket for myself...at last one that fits and I can wear in public (not too small/big or covered in paint - like the ones at home ). I also got a lovely shirt for DH and a polo shirt for DS2 (£25 down to £7!!) - it was going to be mine, but he has nabbed it...might have to return to get another....., there were still plenty left, it said Scotland 1 on the back, perfect for our family! :D. Everything was at least half price or less, so I did quite well I think. I could so easily have got lots more, and considering I haven't been there for over a year, I was quite restrained!! So MSE is having quite an effect on me!

Right, off to sit on my "new" rocking chair, it is an Ercol one and very comfortable. The back cushion needs new foam, but other that that, it is perfect. My friend didn't want anything for it as I have been her taxi for the last couple of months as she has been having eye-sight problems. I will give her some of my many jars of chutney/jam/jelly/marmalade when I next see her. They are planning on moving house soon, and the new one will almost certainly be smaller, so they are clearing out excess stuff now. I am also getting a futon/chair (again for free!) which will be great for a spare bed.

Hope to have NSDs tomorrow and Thursday. More snow can come as I don't plan on going out!!

  • I'm impressed kathy40uk........wish I could show such resilience to temptation. Well done you.

NSD today and had one planned for tomorrow, but spoke to mum earlier and she's asked that I take her shopping tomorrow night. Oh god. I'm doomed.

My heart sank as I heard the words 'I want to have a good look round'. Which means that she'll start off in the Kids clothes section looking for bargains for her grandchildren. Do you think 10 minutes is enough time to do this? Do you think 20 minutes is enough? Oh no....this will take at least half-a-flipping-hour before she then moves on to Toys and then DVD's. We're looking at a good 90 minute trip here fellow frugelfiesters and I don't have a list to limit myself to as I bought all the stuff I needed on Sunday.

Let loose...without a list.....How am I going to make it round Tescos Extra without purchasing a plastic foodsaver in a handy size, a lovely new notebook for errrm making lists in, a sachet for a sauce for a dish that I don't even like, Portabello Mushrooms (I have an inexplicable urge), Some Premium brand Jar of really scrummy Tikka Masala Sauce, Freshly baked bread, A bar of soap to compliment the 16 bars I have already at home, Sweet Pickled Onions that I eat whilst cooking meals that don't require a pickle accompaniment, a jumper that I don't need and will look really naff on because it will have those stupid 'Lamb-Chop' sleeves that I look so ridiculous in............anyone of these items or more could be my downfall.

What shall I do? What strategies can I employ? Forget my purse? Fall ill? Tell her to shop online? Display behaviour so worrying that security will escort me from the premises before I can do any SD damage?
  • Another NSD today. Yesterday ended up being a spend as i had to buy a sandwich for lunch. Kids had eaten all the bread for breakfast.

I'm doing terribly -:naughty: u-u-uhao! We have NONE of that talk here than-cue-vary-mash  only four so far and no chance of meeting my target :( <<<<This is just a carrot, not the be-all of existence ;)
It is my first month though, I think I aimed a bit high. Its also a bit of an eyeopener to see how often I do spend money!! I am well under on my grocery challenge however, and most of my spend days have been either petrol or electric tokens, so next month I'll stock up after payday and hopefully meet my target. Well done the rest of you, everyone is doing really well!! :T:T:T
I'm being cheeky of course but with the bits I've underlined, how can you not have had a degree of success by taking part this far :D
I was admonished way way back, for saying Challenges like this are first & foremost a bit of a giggle; I could see the other poster's POV in saying when money is tight you HAVE to be careful what you spend
 but is it really the ends of the world if you buy milk today because you forgot the deliveries had been changed this week cuz the milkman is on holiday  I can't see the harm in having a laugh--it is FREE & good for you after all!--while you learn, providing you learn something useful :o

Hi-ya Glad ..yep! Every month we begin again, although I think cw18 is kinda doing an annual 'thang'. If you get a chance, have a look at her amazing spreadsheets, developed with the Frugal Challenge in mind but an absolute god-send if you're trying to keep track of stuff grinning-smiley-003.gifHERE'S a bit more about it...
