Hi there thanks for your feedbacks.
This is the aerial we purchased from Argos yesterday.

That may account for your difficulties then. All of your Sky programmes are digital and come via the dish.
If you switch off Sky and view channels 1-5 just on your TV do you get a picture?
Yes I do see your point here.
However my oldest son's freeview tv is fine and never had problems, not even before we had sky, I just asked him now to make sure on this, cheers. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

It does say it's suitable for digital use in strong signal areas - perhaps your area does not have a strong signal?Yes I do see your point here.

Have you tried the TV in your older son's room with his aerial?0 -
It sounds to me that your new tv has skipped the tuning sequence it should have gone through on its insitial start-up, most likely because the set is not receiving a strong signal or the set itself has a fault.
In one of the on-screen menus, (possible under Set-up) is there an option to Rescan For Stations - or Rescan For New Stations?
If so, I suggest you take the set to an aerial point that you qre sure gives an adequate signal (either the one your main set is attached to or even a neighbours) and initiate the re-scan there.
When complete, if the set works, then you will have established that the aerial is at fault. If it does not work, it will be a problem with the set.
If you did not see the set pause, with on on-screen message that it was scanning for stations for a few minutes when it was first switched on, it his not yet tuned in to any channels and you will still have to go through that process before you can receive anything.0 -
Thanks again for your comments.
Just tried it by turning it to normal TV, and even though blurry/cloudy, one of 2 normal channels are coming up, then attached a booster to it, its improved a little but will take some dealing with I think.
Yes tried my other son's aerial as well, but made no difference.
Still trying, will keep you posted. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
If the reception on analogue is so poor that you only see a cloudy picture on two channels, it will never work on Freeview from that aerial.
Again, I suggest you take the set to an aerial socket that you know receives Freeview well (such as a friend or neighbour's house) and see if it works there.
If so, you will have established once and for all whether it is the set or the aerial.0 -
Thanks again.
Its now working okay and even the freeview channels are up and running.......:T:T.
My hubby pressed the number 8 on the control about 4 times, he read something somewhere on this, and gave it a go, and it worked, and what a lovely clear picture as well.
So chuffed for my son.
Thank you all for your help, you have all been amazing;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

When you say this worked can you tell us exactly what happened?
Did this start the installation process or were the pictures just there?0 -

I will have to ask my hubby when he gets back.;)
Funny enough I received an email back this morning from when I emailed the digital dept before posting on here, have a read, its a long one though.

Your postcode is NP44 2NF which means you are likely to receive your TV signal from the Wenvoe transmitter which switches on 3rd March and 31st March 2010.
A set top aerial may work in strong signal areas, although a good rooftop aerial will be less liable to suffer from interference. It would be worth trying the TV which is showing no signal on an aerial point known to be good(eg your other sons aerial). If this resolves the problem you may need to look at a different aerial for the new TV.
Here are some other steps which may help:
Our postcode checker predicts you should get good overall reception on 54 TV channels. This is dependent on you having an aerial of the correct type, correctly aligned, and in good condition.
Please retune your digital equipment. Disconnect any peripheral equipment such as a VCR or DVD. Follow the instructions in your manufacturer's guide for the specific details. When retuning choose the option 'Factory Reset', 'Default' or 'First-Time Installation' whenever possible. If these options are not available choose 'Auto Tune' or 'Auto Scan'.
Turn off your equipment and remove the aerial. Turn back on and retune. After this no channels will be found and an error message such as 'No Channels' or 'Check Antenna' will appear. Re-install your aerial and retune again. This may tune your missing channels.
You may also wish to try a manual retune to install your missing channels. You may need to refer to the manufacturer's instructions for details on how to do this, although some older products do not offer this facility.
A generic manual retune guide is as follows:
Disconnect any peripheral equipment such as a VCR or DVD
Remove the aerial.
Use the option 'Shipping Conditions', 'Factory Reset', 'Default' or 'First-Time Installation' whenever possible in order to delete channel data. (If these options are not available choose 'Auto Tune' or 'Auto Scan'. You may get a message such as 'No Channels Found', or 'Check Antenna').
Re-install the aerial.
Press 'Menu' on the digital remote control.
From the 'Menu' options screen select the 'Set-Up' or 'Installation' menu.
From the installation menu select 'Manual Search'.
This should reveal a new page on which the UHF channel numbers can be entered. The UHF channel numbers for the Wenvoe transmitter are: Mux1 30:Mux2 34:MuxB 50:MuxA 40:MuxC 43:MuxD 46:MuxHD 47(from 31st March 2010)
After entering the numbers and confirming press 'Menu' or 'Exit' to check the channels have been retuned.
Loss of service at a particular time of day could be attributed to electrical interference – central heating, deep freezers kicking in. It could also be attributed to a cordless telephone/baby alarm which uses radio signals.
If you have an aerial amp or splitter booster behind the TV this could be the cause of the problem. An aerial amp should only be used in poor digital TV reception areas. Signal boosters will not improve TV reception in strong signal areas, nor will they help reduce analogue TV picture ghosting. When an aerial amplifier is used in a good TV reception area it only serves to increase the likelihood of experiencing television interference and worsen the overall quality of reception.
All analogue channels should be available until the switchover in March next year.
You can test your current aerial through analogue Teletext. This test is designed to check if your current aerial will need to be replaced or upgraded to receive digital TV through your aerial after the switchover.
The test pattern is broadcast on Teletext page 284 on BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and S4C. You should carry out the test on all channels and under different weather conditions (fog, rain, fine dry weather, etc) to achieve a more accurate and objective result. If there are more than 4 squares missing (randomly spaced – complete lines missing are fine) then your aerial needs checked or replaced. Ideally, the screen should display a full grid of vertical/horizontal white boxes.
If you need to upgrade your current aerial we recommend that you use a Registered Digital Installer (RDI) identified by the "digital tick" logo. To find a RDI in your area please visit: http://www.rdi-lb.tv If there is no RDI available in your area at present you can look for an aerial installer in the Yellow Pages who is a member of the Independent Digital Standards Commission (IDSC) or the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI).

Thanks - just interested to know what the problem turned out to be.Funny enough I received an email back this morning from when I emailed the digital dept before posting on here, have a read, its a long one though.
Seems to go through all the things we suggested.0
