I have examined the 47SL9500 up close in Currys as I was looking to buy one, but personally I think it a bit of a turkey, and an expensive one at that.

Because it is edge-lit, the backlighting is uneven when compared to a 'standard' CCFL-lit LCD screen. The black levels are poor when compared to TVs that are almost half the price (Samsung LE50B650 comes to mind), and the off-axis viewing is terrible - the screen loses contrast and the shadows turn into a grey mist.

The only thing going for this TV is its thinness - and even then the sockets stick out of the back of the TV, so it is difficult to mount it flush against the wall without routing out huge chunks of the wall first.

If you absolutely must have a super thin TV to wall mount, get one of the Samsung offerings. Otherwise there are plenty of other TVs available for much less than this one that easily outperform it.

I myself have recently bought a TV, and it took me 6 months to get the right one - I demoed quite a few including LCDs, LED-lit LCDs, and plasmas, and finally went for an LG 50PS8000 which I got for less than £850. I had a 47SL9500 on preorder for a while, but I sure am glad I cancelled it once I got to see one up close and saw the flaws in the picture.
  • Biggest disappointment I've seen with our Samsung LED is the sound.

Because of the thinness of the TV, the speakers have suffered and the sound quality is poor.

Agreed, sound quality is something that always appears to be overlooked by many people when buying TV's.

No Deano, utter rubbish. Plasma doesn't generally look as bright as LCDs (that includes LED backlit ones) in showrooms, and brightness = better in showrooms. Far too bright when you get back to your living room though. Plasma has a higher MAXIMUM power consumption (that would be a bright white screen) but in general use takes around the same as a similarly sized LCD.

Plasma TV's are in a different league to LCD's, I have both, the Plasma is streets ahead of the LCD.
