Hi Bronnie,
that is a really good point you made, about buying people gift sets. :T
If we are all storing them up, stockpiling and not using them, maybe other people are. I think I maybe buy them, because they are the "easy option" but I am definately going to have a rethink, and instead of buying a gift set, I am actually going to ask the person if that's what they would like, or would they prefer something else as a gift.

I was running out of shampoo... so I went into Boots, ingored the flashing lights and '3 for 2's ' and 50% off, and got a big bottle of Boots own brand- 58p and paid with points.
I feel so proud of myself!!(especially since I know my lovely OH was using the very last of the bottle I got in July!)- long life to Boots own brand jumbo shampoo!!0 -
well done londoner!
with regards to high end makeup vs cheaper brands, I would say 85% of the avon products are good if not better than most of the high end stuff I have tried.
Their bronzer and perfect wear mascara are second to none.

this year we made a gift bag for 13yo nephew with some of our stash. It contained
King of shaves razor & blades
A toni & guy hair clay was too heavy for OH ( I bought 2 as they were cheap)
KOS medicated face wash
KOS shaving cream
Adidas deoderant
and a few other mens bits & bats Id bulk bought and OH wasnt over-keen on.
13 yo nephew was impressed- a variety of "names" this is stuff he could never afford out of his pocket money! And was pleased to see items out in use in the bathroom a few days later
I think people do actually like receiving toiletries I know I doespecially if they are a "cut above" what you'd normally buy yourself.
I have used up the last of the sainsburys toothpaste ( very abrasive, I dont recommend this)
Also finished off Superdrug "eastern spa" body wash that came in a set from 10p basket last week. I have to say- I wouldnt be impresed with this body set to be honest. i reckon this was about a fiver before Xmas- a small purple bag with a body scrub/lotion/wash. 10p is about its worth!
With "rubbish" moisturisers I don't like much I use up by warming a hand towel. Putting my feet together on the towel, pouring in the lotion, wrapping the towel around, and sitting still for ages then rinsing & scrubbing with the pumice, this takes off lots of hard skin. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I think there's a thread on this board about the cheaper makeup brands and which are better, but I really love Bourjois (I hear this is the high street version of Chanel, made by the same people), Collection 2000, E.L.F and Prestige. And whenever I do want to splash out a bit more, I check eBay first. You can spot the fakes a mile off if you read the guides and check the seller feedback.
I've been lurking on this thread and finding it very inspirational! I have really curbed my make-up and toiletry addiction since being pregnant and having my little boy but I still have a ridiculous stash that I am working my way through!
I just wanted to say that the Aldi copy of Touche Eclat is brilliant. I think it is about £2.99 but it is fab- I really recommend it to anyone looking to anyone looking to cut back.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0
