It's a bit quiet on here. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to recommend a sharp knife that I could buy for slicing fimo. I made a lemon slice roll last night but even the sharpest knife I had in the house squished it :(
I also received my first jilly beads order. I'm really impressed, I bought the 200g bead mix from the clearance and it was lovely. There were 141 beads in it, 6 of which were pandora beads. They also included a 'how to' sheet and a small gripseal bag of beads!
I also managed to bag myself a headband at primarni for 50p with lots of nice bright beads on and a couple of charity shop necklaces with some interesting beads on thanks to your suggestions to look in these places.
Worth noting that primarni now have some gorgeous little faux pearl bracelet packs in at the moment for a £1. They come in regular pearl and pink. There are about 6 bracelets per pack, 3 faux pearl and a few different sized seed bead ones. :)

I use a regular craft knife from B&q but it's never sharp enough for canes. I recommend the Fimo ones the sell at craft celler and Hobbycraft. It's about £8.00 odd for 3, there might be ones on their own. They are super sharp and thin so don't squash the canes, good of you plan to make loads. Hth

    Hi there!
I want to get back into crafting and am hoping to make some beaded flowers. Would this be too tough for a beginner?
Any tips on where to start- where to get ideas etc.
    Thanks

    Jellie

Beaded flowers take a lot of wire, beads, and patience, not to mention a lot of swear words and they take a long time to make.

But if that hasn't put you off, do a google search for french beaded flowers and that should bring up some pages for you

This took around a week to make, doing about 5 hours a day

Thanks Jo- they are so beautiful that they seem worth the effort! I was hoping to do some for my wedding next year.
Are they difficult or just time consuming?
Thanks for the search term as I didn't realise they were called that!

I get regular emails about jewellery making from About.com - there are a couple of ideas for projects you could try there. :)

Difficult to get the hang of at first, and after that just very time consuming, I restricted myself to around 5 hours a day, with regular breaks, otherwise the winding and twisting of the wire was making my fingers, hands and wrists ache.

Oh and thank you, that was made for my partner's grandma, and she loves it, so much so that I got a request for another one!

    Thanks Jo
I guess I'll look for a small one to start with and see how I go.
Any tips on best suppliers for bead and wire?
