Could someone please let me know what type of memory wire I need to buy to make bracelets. I made one in a kit and really enjoyed it. Does anyone have any links on ebay?

Thank You, I missed the postman today so I will have to go pick up my tiles tomorrow :( You are great at making them and i am looking forward to getting some inspiration from them tomorrow, just bought some charms from myvintagecharms to go with them, gonna start making some alice in wonderland charm necklaces next i think.

Ive always wondered how you make you charms and bag charms so full? Do you attach extra chains and fill them with beads or link the beads together??

Hi, I bought this one which is 40 coils
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/40-COILS-SILVER-PLATED-60MM-MEMORY-BRACELET-WIRE-M032-/350284271712?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Crafts_JewelleryMaking_GL&hash=item518e91d060 but I ran out of that one & bought this one:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/200-COILS-SILVER-PLATED-60MM-MEMORY-BRACELET-WIRE-M032-/350259601290?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Crafts_JewelleryMaking_GL&hash=item518d195f8a
which is 200 coils :) It just depends on how much you want to make :p Hope that is of some help?

VikkiJD - Can't wait to see what you make with the charms you got from me :) Alice in Wonderland is one of the many things on my never ending list to do!

When I make my bag charms I start with one length of chain, then I attach 2 smaller lengths of chains to that & then I add the beads around. Sometimes I do have to stop myself adding more & more:rotfl:I can get carried away :rotfl:

I've just blogged some more completed Special Orders if you'd like a nosey, I know you've seen them VikkiJD over on FB :D I'm doing a shift swap tonight for a favour so I'm starting at 7pm but I can't complain its only till 10.30 but I'd rather be here finishing off my dominos, I've been so busy the last couple of days I've not got around to glossing them! One bonus of this is that she's going to work my Thurs night as pay back & I have already booked Friday night off so it will feel like I've got a week off work as I'm not back in till the following Thurs night...ACE :j
Its Emily's 3rd Birthday tomo too so I'm not working then....going to surprise the kiddies with a McD's tea as a treat when Alex has finished school, I know its not a lot but I know they will love it, so will I & daddy too :D I made Emily's Birthday card today & another birthday card, there both on my blog ;)

    Right I'll go...sos for the long post :D x

Malibysami86 : Here are the instructions, forgive me if you think Im telling you already know but I thought I would cover all bases, plus it may help someone else who comes to read the board.

For the beads I used a variety of sources to buy the ones I have in my stash. I use ebay (usually sanctuary beads), Jillybeads.com and myvintagecharms.com. I started off buying lots of beads (eg 30 of a style/colour, 30 of another) but this can get very costly. For this make I actually used a blue bead mix from jillybeads which you can find on this link http://www.jillybeads.co.uk/acatalog/Mix_glass_pearls.html. Its the only time I have used a bead mix but I think its a great wya to go as you get a huge variety of beads and sizes so can make really impressive looking pieces without having to spend a small fortune on beads!

    Bracelet:
This is a memory wire bracelet. You use memory wire. You cut off the desired number of coils you would like using either special memory wire cutters or some standard pliers that may be lying around the house (my dad gave me a pair of his!), dont use any other jewellery making pliers as this wire is alot stronger than it looks and will damage them. You then loop the wire at the end back over on itself to create an 'end' using round nose pliers. Sometimes I add a charm to this loop before I close it but ont his occasion I didnt. You then simply thread the beads on in a random order (I am just careful where I position the large beads as I like them distributed evenly over the bracelet so that they dont all end up in the same place on each coil), and loop over the end of the bracelet as you did at the start.

    Earrings:
You need to buy some ear wires such as http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100-SILVER-PLATED-BALL-AND-COIL-EARWIRES-/290407947456?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Crafts_JewelleryMaking_GL&hash=item439da99cc0 and headpins such as http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/200-Silver-plated-Headpins-30mm-/390176058700?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Crafts_JewelleryMaking_GL&hash=item5ad84e2d4c. You thread the beads onto the headpin then use your round nose pliers to curl the end into a loop (using the cutting pliers you have to cut your memory wire to trim off the excess). Then you use a jumpring to attach the headpin with the beads on to the earwire or you could just attach directly onto it (depends which way you prefer the earring) and repeat for the other earring in the pair.

    Necklace:
This was actually the first necklace I had made (and only so far hahaha). I hadnt intended on making any yet but wanting one to go in the set. I used a crimping plier to apply a crimp to the end on some tigertail (beading wire). I just searched youtube for some tutorials on how to do this best. Then I threaded the beads onto the tigertail and applied another crimp at the end. I actually used a pattern for this (unlike the bracelet which was random) as I felt it meant the necklace 'balanced' better. Its just a symmetrical pattern rather than a repeating one. then I attached some chain (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-METRES-SILVER-PLATED-CHAIN-3MM-X-4MM-LINKS-/280513658892?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Crafts_JewelleryMaking_GL&hash=item414feac00c) to each end using a jumpring and attached a loster clasp at the other ends.

And thats how it was all done :D. Like I said its quite simple compared to some of the other makes the wonderful ladies on here have done! If you have any more questions just ask and if I cant help Im sure someone else can, they have always been so helpful for me too. If your not too sure if somethings right before you buy it just post the link and someone will have a look for you and advise you.

Oh and dont forget to post some pictures of your makes :D

awesome, i will definately post pictures when i get going. i already have a few ideas but just jotting down to get an idea of shapes and colours and sizes so i can do a bulk order. what is the rough guide you use for bead sizes. not sure but guessing 8mm is about average? whats the best elastic to use for stretchy bracelets? and also, if i use memory wire, whats the best way to attach a clip and what clips do i use etc...

can anyone recommend any specific places for funky ideas for bracelet designs? i have been on jillys for supplies but found a few cheaper ebay shops..... just looking for design inspiration and an idea of usual bead sizes.

thanks so much for your support. i cant wait to get going

I was given some memory wire kits as a birthday present and went to Hobbeycraft and bought some more memory wire but it is different. The one in the kit was quite thick and stayed in the coil links but the one from hobbeycraft is really flimsy and comes out of shape and I have threaded some beads on it and it wont stay in shape. Does anyone have any idea what size coil is best?:T
