CrossStitcher magazine is great for beginners. It has a wide variety of styles of designs and I often pick designs out of it for cards and small projects.

Bubbles - hang fire as I'm almost certain that my mum has this kit. I'll check this evening and pm you. It's called Summer Music and is a JCA kit.

If you do find the chart at your Mum's, I've got loads of DMC threads so if you let me have the thread no's I could sort them out for Bubbles. (I buy my DMC in Florida for 35 cents (20 pence) so i duplicate most of them and then wind them onto those bobbins - love that job it's so therapeutic!!))

Ruth - Hope you are having a oggd time and that the break is theraputic for you xx

MRSM - Hope your arm is okay, you must have got such a fright xx

Judellie - Looking forward to seeing a pic of thse Tigers :)

Bubbles - I'm going to go for a plain gold frame with a white mount, keeping it as simple as possible. It prob won't be framed until May, I reckon it will cost a bit so I am going to request the framing as a birthday present :D

Emzy - I normally change mine over to 14ct aida and do two strands. Makes my life so much easier. For 25ct linen I would do a test patch tbh and see if you are happy with the coverage of one strand - if not, you can change to two strands. Everyone has their own preference about coverage.

artydoll - that is deffo one of the best mags for a beginner :)

Eric's Mum - I find that relaxing as well - even though my kids always bug me so they can have a shot of winding:rotfl:

How does everyone else feel about metallic threads?

I'm not so good with them. I need one for my current pic (Kreinik 032) and after realiseing they are over £3 each:eek: I discovered that it can be converted to DMC's light effects E5200

I hate the 'rubbing' feeling of metallic on metallic, and I feel it takes up more space in the fabric hole and it's a pain in the butt to get it to lie flat. :o
Decided to just use the silk effect instead (S5200) it's lovely and soft. Won't sparkle so much, but I don't think it will detract from the design.

Am I the only one who dislikes working with metallics?

Louise - Your HAED is amazing; I can't wait to see it framed! Oh, and I don't much like working with metallics either, though I love how they look when done. Using Thread Heaven on them makes them a lot easier to deal with.

Mrs M - I hope you're feeling better and can get back to the stitching soon!

    Hi everyone!
Just having a BBQ & watching Finding Nemo. Still not got to do any stitching, but I did take it with me earlier. I'm not doing too badly. Feel a bit strange every now & then, so I go off on my own for 15 minutes and then join the group again. I'm with my DH, 2 friends who I used to work with, and their friends who I've only met once before. They're treating me normally though, so it's ok. It's the being asked how I am every 10 minutes that makes me feel worse. Like I'm bringing everyone else down by not being 'normal'. I'm just trying to relax & enjoy myself and not think about things too much.
We've got a lovely villa with a hydrobath (bliss! :D) and sauna. BBQ outside, en suite bathrooms and a lovely view of the forest. We went swimming yesterday, and this morning we walked down to the 'beach' and fed the ducks-there's some cute ducklings here! Thought it best to have the BBQ now, as it's dry, then go swimming later and have some nibbles when we get back tonight. The others have a spa day tomorrow, but DH & I are going to have a DIY spa in the villa and go swimming again. I LOVE the pool here. It's fab. Then with any luck, I can maybe get some stitching done while the others are bowling tomorrow night.
Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend.

Ruth - that sounds like you're having a lovely holiday.

Louise - I don't like the DMC metalics but have found that the Krienrik ones are much nicer to work with. Santa has got a bit of metallic in him (you'll see more next update as I've been doing some of the metallic part recently).

I've never used the satin threads though I am tempted and I suspect they'd be nicer to work with than the metallics.
