  • Hi everyone, I only found you all yesterday and spent the evening reading through posts from 2006 onwards! I intend to make as many Christmas presents as I can next year as I am fed up with the annual trawl around the shops to buy things for people who can mostly buy what they want, when they want, and turn it into some sort of competion as to who can spend the most! This year I did manage to make a lap quilt for my mum - I think she liked it, it's hard to tell with an 85 year old!

I am intrigued by the snowman soup and reindeer food and all the other bits you've been selling at craft fayres: could someone please send a link to make these as I don't really have time to go back through all the messages.

For Christmas 2010 I intend to make:

Lap quilt for my hubby (this is half made already, just needs quilting and binding)
Cross stitch picture of beach huts (he has a fascination with them!)
Birth sampler for my grandson (born March 2008!!!)
Wedding sampler for daughter and son-in-law (married Sept 2007!)
Scrapbook for my dad with all his army photos in (wanted to do it this year but ran out of time)
Scrapbook for mum and dad (1 page done currently)
Knitted fluffy scarves for 2 daughters
An apron for my dad (he is a messy eater and also cooks)
A collage of pics of my grandson for his mum and dad
Gift hampers for daughters/son in laws/hubby/mum and dad
Hand-made notelet sets x 3 (I am a cardmaker so these are easy)
Patchwork bags for 2 daughters and sister-in-law
Selection of hand made jams and chutney for friends
Altered art picture frames for daughters (if I get to the class to learn)
    Knitted jumper for dad
    Knitted jumper for grandson
    Knitted scarecrow for grandson
Prettily wrapped empty boxes with following poem on the outside:
    I took an ordinary box
    As empty as can be
I filled it with a special gift
    And wrapped it carefully

But please don't ever open it
    Just leave the ribbon tied
And hold it tightly near your heart
Because my love for you's inside

(Bit cheesey but I'll only give it to those I really think will like it)

Oooh crikey, looking at that little lot, I'd better get cracking and make a start tonight!

Look forward to finding more ideas and inspiration from everyone on here.

    Chris

I'd like to join in this year if that's ok

I'm not as crafty as some but I enjoy making things and seeing the end result!

Currently knitting mk2 of a baby blanket for a fellow MSE'r and trying to finish niece's birthday presents (already named a star for her and framed the certificate)

Would like to have at least one handmade thing for everyone I buy presents for in 2010 and would also like to copy Kirstie Allsop's idea and make stockings for people

  • I have all the Tilda sewing books and these are great for gift ideas although again I hand sew most of the things I make from those.

I love these books:T I have the xmas one and the sew pretty homestyle(I think thats what its called) So far I have made a house angel(minus the wings:rotfl:) , scented strawberries and a dressing gown angel. Fantastic items to make and so cute:D Here is a pic of the first item I made from the book. I'm afraid I had a bit of trouble with her face so she's a bit "beaky":rotfl:I named her Issy:D

Chris - loving your list............some brilliant ideas you have there.
    (Might have to 'borrow' some...............lol)

I want to do family scrapbooks for my sons, grandkids and for ourselves (OH bought me fabulous scrapbooking kit for christmas)
Bit of a novice at cross stitch but love the idea of beach huts (my son lives on the south coast) not sure he'd want a sampler but a coaster I know he'd love- where might I find a pattern for that -has to be dead simple for me
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

  • Count me in. Am fed up having fantastic ideas but running out of time to make them.

Am starting Christmas presents for my sisters in next few days to spread out over year. Am going to collate family recipes and make into book (complete with photos - that's why I'm starting soon). Now just awaiting inspiration for everyone else's present.....
    Making small changes everyday....

Sewing seems to becoming a big thing - I got a sewing machine for Christmas - I haven't touched on since I was 13 years old, which was longer ago than I'd like to think...

Maybe we should have a sewing for beginners thread, as there seems to be a lot of it about!

Great suggestion, I have just started a new thread:D

mary-op: feel free to use any ideas.... these are just a few I had, whether they actually get made or not is another matter!

I made all my Christmas cards for 2009 except 2 (for people I didn't really want to give a card to as we never get one back but they're step-family), and would like to do the same next Christmas. I don't know if people appreciate them but I've got all the stuff and might as well use it up.

Another 'thing' I'm into is Morsbags (you'll have to google it as it won't let me post links) and when I get better at sewing straight seams I might wrap the home-made pressies up in one to save on wrapping paper as well.

I'd also love the flannel reindeer and cupcake flannel ideas too please if anyone has them handy.

    Thanks

  • mary-op: sorry, forgot to mention in my last post about the beach hut pattern. It's in one of my Cross Stitch magazines, I'll go and hunt it out and let you know which one, then maybe you can find it on e-bay or something (or I could send it to you when I've done it!)
