Skidding on Ice. Brake, Accelerate, Do nothing or ABANDON SHIP??

This thread veered off course somewhat.

We all find ourselves in awkward situations from time to time, it's one of the pitfalls of driving.

This thread was about the decision to jump out and end up (almost) under the wheels of the car.

The driver opens the door, and shortly afterwards the brakelights come off which is at the point where he bails. As soon as the brakelights come off, the front wheels start turning and the car speeds up. That's when it goes truly out of control. It soon spins because it looks like he pulled the handbrake before bailing (the back wheels remain locked). If the idiot had stayed in the car the funny thing is not only would he have been infinitely safer but he had a chance of controlling the car still and to avoid hitting anything, or at least to minimise the speed of whatever it was he did hit.

I like how people are attacking the person filming the incident.

I'd shake his hand. He's done an excellent jump of highlighting the numptyness of the driver of that vehicle. The footage should be handed to the police, and the licence of the driver removed by a magistrate.
