Has anyone recently had a conversation with a young person especially if they're driving involving any sort of advice being given?

Not sure what you class as young, but i'm 25 and tend to take advice from people, especially 'older' people as I know they have more experience than me.

Wrong usually and pretty stupid i'd say. I was de-icing my car this morning when a neighbour walked past and stopped to advise me to be careful driving as the roads were really icy, he'd come home from work and nearly been caught out on a corner. I thanked him as like i've mentioned in another post, it is quite hard to see what was ice and what was water and although it didn't seem as bad today, it was still VERY slippery.

  • if you have traction control on your car, and the road conditions are very icy like there, do you keep it switched on or off?

Have a look at your car manual. On mine it says that I should switch the ESP off in icy conditions.

Do many cars have traction control?
    I don't think mine does.

Why did they try to get out? Sit in it and let it take the impact. Unless it's a 1:5 hill that they're at the top of.

I think if it was me then I'd be getting my foot on the clutch, feathering the brakes and if that failed I'd steer it into one of the open spaces and use a wall as a buffer.

The people making the video might have been aware that it was slippery, in which case they could have made a sign or tried gritting the road I suppose.

    Quote from the cameraman:
The car hit the hedge on the right, the front of a new Merc behind the hedge then hit the wall. The guy who jumped out was crushed against the silver car on the left by his own car. Cracked rib(s), injured neck, arm etc. Ripped his jacket arm to shreds.

Just wanted to post as i live very near this place and feel for them as they would have been obviously been completely out of control BUT personally there were weather warnings etc and unless it was an emergency then i wouldn't have gone out.

I went to work at 5.30am and hadn't heard the news , my rd seemed ok and car not iced so off i went..I got a call to say my friend had written his car off into a tree..i was so scared to drive home but main rds were ok..of course when i got back to my rd (a new estate like the one pictured) the car lost it..we have quite big gate posts and by some miricle i parked in my drive after sliding around for ages trying not to slide into a buisyish rd..it was amazing nothing got damaged..when i got out of the car however i went flat and hurt myself but other than that i stayed in with my 5 mindees all day as not safe.

I know of 5 people who had accidents badly which is awful at this time of year especially..dh had his poliuce radio on too and by 9am there had been 24 rtc's in our small town alone..not good.

The people filming it were out of order..i could have done the same out of my window but think its sad to watch others misfortune, my neighbour came down and just slid past the house..i couldn't watch or before anyone says anything do anything..i also think they should of stayed in the car unless they were heading towards a very buisy main rd which doesnt look like they were so should have stayed in..safer.

Comments like ha ha ha on youtube are very sad imo..it's no different to watching any other accident and we dont laugh at those do we?
