.....For the joyless !!!!!!s who think we could have stopped them from where we were, !!!! off. the couple were actually warned by their next door neighbour before they got in the car.

Also, if you see a flash of orange to the left of the frame near the start of the vid, that's a recovery truck stuck in the middle of the road at a 90 degree angle and had been there for 3 hours. There were nearly a dozen people on the street when this happened, and yet STILL they drove on :spaz:.....

There's a few things that don't ring true about this but we have to give the youtuber the benefit of the doubt nonetheless, as I am only about to make a few observations which may or may not be true.

    1. The road in question seems to be a road into an estate, from a main road entrance.

    2. The main road would be gritted and to Gilbert & Sullivan, please note it is entirely possible that having driven normally on the gritted main road when they turned into this road they met with some ice they did not know was there.

    3. Yes the RAC van is there but it is out of sight for anyone entering the estate assuming that is the entrance to the estate. Assuming also the the generator thingy at 0:11 is what he is on about.

    4. Assuming the youtubers account is accurate and this is not the entrance to the estate, but that the car was trying to get to the exit of the estate (he must have been otherwise there would be no reason to get into his car & go down that hill.) Then the he describes others like me who were assuming things.... as "joyless", ahh I see, we are meant to look at the video and feel joy, which does kind of prove the point that Kriss Boy was making about them, they saw a situation and decided it would make entertainment to film it rather than try to do something.... ANYTHING to stop a situation from happening. That may be walk to the nearest grit bin, it may be to join the 12 people already out there & deter the guy from driving (if that's what happened) may be to raid your cupboards and sprinkle salt to the road and encourage neighbours to do the same. Put wheelie bins into the road to act as road blocks.

    Ah that was so funny!
Can't see why people are getting s indignant about the passers by. What on earth did you expect them to do - run after the car and stop it? The two blokes first on the camera could barely stand up straight, never mind run lol.

If you drive in these conditions, you have to be very observant and drive really slowly. A similar thing happened to me today in my own estate - was driving very slowly down a sheet of ice (had no choice, I couldn't go back or turn round). All was well until I tried to turn right, except my wheels didn't. I was going so slow I just floated into the kerb straight ahead, which put a stop to my travels. There was nothing I or anyone else could do. The trick is don't drive or if you do, drive very slowly, because no one, not even God can help if you skid on ice.

ETA can not understand why they even attempted a hill, nor why they tried to jump out of the car. Nutters. Jumping out would be the last thing on my mind, unless they actually did know the estate very well and didn't want to go any further in the car. That negates the poor old ignorants arguments anyway.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

I'm the only one who mentioned the passers by, and I didn't really have a go at them, I was just commenting that I would hope they would have done something to warn the approaching car, they may have done off camera as I said. A couple of people incl me are really only commenting on the film makers, rather than doing something to prevent it, they sit there recording it hoping something "worth filming" will happen.

Isn't that what the driver in question was doing?

Except other people could have possibly gritted the roads. or knowing there was ice there warned people not to go on that hill and put wheelie bins into the road as road blocks. You don't need god to do that.

Maybe the hill was very steep from there and as they were going slowly at that point it was the best thing to do.

Not really, They may have been driving on gritted roads and only entered the estate to discover the ice was there, knowledge of the layout of the estate would not have given them knowledge of the ice.

I agree people who were recording it must have taken some action since the knew .
But hell, the drivers themselves? the last 4-5 days of snow , i have totally changed the way i drive, i dont do anymore shortcuts as i know they wont have been gritted , so following main roads instead, and normally stay far behind the car on front of me.... 1 day i didnt se it fit and got the train to go to work.
Some people see blue sky and think no thing but ignition, gear and accelerate!
My wife driving her mini on a motorway when snow caught everybody by surprise last tuesday, and we d see people with big heavy new estate bmw, etc skidding and skidding, trying to progress, while mini rolled slowly ahead... and think, she passed her test this october

As for your remark about the gritters. Sure, the council will pull resources and tend to a remote residential side street- thats sensible. Why do you think grit bins are located in residential non primary gritting routes?

    Scum.

Have you been drinking dear chap, this sentence makes about as much sense as the rest of your post.

If you can't handle the booze or make a point without resorting to personal insults your last word may very apply to yourself.

Gotta say the people filming are typical british scum.

There are a number of things they could have done but instead they chose to reach for the camera and film the whole think. They were clearly waiting the next car to come along and do that.

    Utter scum.

Your the one that wanted to drive after drinking 15 Jack Daniels

    and

Buy aftershave to get the free gift and take the aftershave back.

    ...
I sincerely hope the council won't spend a fortune treating every single side or residential road, those of us that pay rates ( now called council tax or some other term) already pay far too much.
And in the case of frozen water which this obviously is as against compacted snow, the council or whoever does treat the road will be doing so on a daily basis to replenish the solution as it's washed off.

If you resort to personal insults again i shall not discuss anything with you.

I can remember the same happening to me, in a fiesta, I ended up applying full right hand lock to the steering and ended up doing 2 complete circles until it ended up stationary in the middle of the road. Very scary but better than sliding into a parked car - or abandoning ship :D I also think it was bad taste to film this happening, after all the car could have easily mounted the kerb and killed someone.
