Thought I'd be the first to get this one in.

Christmas starts in just 1 hour and 5 minutes somewhere in the world.... although it is still X-mas eve and mad last minute shopping time here.

Despite all the arguing, all the disagreements, and all the animosity that we may have for each other the rest of the year....

I genuinely wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Have a nice christmas, Hamish, Misskool, and all the other posters on MSE too.

    You absolute fibber.

The roads are like sheets of ice, Tescos was full of people suffering from trolley rage. My DD is still in a huff about the Xmas tree and the one thing that is definately not jingling is my piggy bank.

But this is still my favourite time of year......

    Merry Christmas :j

With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the thread
Not a creature was stirring, it was almost dead.
The stockings were hung, the trees decorated,
Christmas on MSE will soon be celebrated.

The posters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of house prices danced in their heads.
And Pastures in her ‘kerchief, and Gen in his cap,
Had just settled their brains for a long winter (or summer’s) nap.

When outside of the thread there arose such a clatter,
We sprung from our laptops to see what was the matter.
Away to the window we flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the now slushy snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight MSE reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and spartan,
I knew in a moment it must be St Martin.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Really! Now Misskool ! now Purch and Cleaver!
On, Carol! On, Hamish! on Treliac! and ‘Devon!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each MSE hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Martin came with a bound.

He spoke not a word, but into the house he bound,
And filled all the stockings, for under one pound.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his MSE deer
And away they all flew, no longer near.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas MSErs and to all a good-night!"

Not sure I've ever really gone for the idea of Martin filling my stocking.

    Still, lovely poem, viva. ;)

Aww thanks. I did consider having one of our resident "gents" fill the stockings, such as Brodders, but thought it could be misconstrued, so settled for Martin as a safer, less likely to get the whole thread deleted and more MSE, option.

    Very wise.

Seasonal best wishes, incl to all those who don't celebrate Xmas.
