I keep my downstairs living areas between 18 and 20 c.
Any higher and it feels stuffy to me.
I might be wrong but I think fox1977 could be referring to the boiler operating temp in c?0 -
Yes, im talking about the temp on the boiler for the radiators.
I have a dial downstairs but i'm not too sure how it works? Is this for the temperature downstairs or all of the radiators in the house? When i knock this down to under 20 the heating stays off.
How do i go about using the two together, properly?

Our plumber suggested our boiler should be set to 60 which he said takes the radiators slightly longer to heat the house but is safer for children because the radiators won't get as hot.0

The dial is a thermostat and is designed to work with your boiler to retain a steady temperature.
Adjust the dial up. until you get the house a comfortable temp. Once the temp you have set is reached it turns off your boiler, until the temp drops and it will then come back on and repeat the cycle.0 -

There can be 3 separate temperature controls.
A thermostat normally on the wall downstairs, probably in the hall which acts as already stated above. Set this to the ambient temperature required. It will switch the boiler on and off to maintain a constant temperature.
There will be a temperature setting on the boiler. This sets the water temperature in the boiler itself. The hotter the water, the quicker the radiators will warm up. The down side it's more expensive to operate as it uses more gas. I normally set it highish when the weather's cold and lowish as the weather gets hotter.
The last control is on the hot water tank. Again, this sets water temperature. This time though the water through your taps. This only applies if you have a regular boiler set up."...IT'S FRUITY!"0 -
You can also have a fourth - thermostatic valves on the radiators. These control the temperatures in individual rooms - you would normally want bedrooms cooler as you are under a nice thick duvet, whereas in the lounge you are probably sitting still.
I think our boiler runs at about 60C and we have the house thermostat set at 18C during the day and 14C overnight (which in practical terms means the heating is pretty much off at night unless its really cold. That adds up to an annual gas bill of around £600 for a 3 bed detached house. We don't have a water tank as we have a combi - which in our case saves us a fortune as we only heat hot water we are using rather than heating a whole tank twice a day just to have hot water for washing up!Adventure before Dementia!0 -
14-15 during the day to keep the boiler on in this weather. 20 if I am inside the flat.0
